I am sick of RFC consistently playing aloose men and numbers behind the ball.
How on earth can we teach our kids to play accountable footy and play under pressure, having loose men is disguising the fact that we have soft players whose skills suffer when put under pressure, we will never win a final (let alone get there) if we continue to play this way.

TW please make our guys play man on man and contested footy, numbers around the ball and hardness at th contest. getting players loose and then turning the ball over is a recipe for disaster both short and long term.

The reason we cannot move the ball fwd quickly is because all our players are behind it, chip kicking sideways and backwards - backwards kicks should be banned at our club. You go fwd with it, you run handpass or you kick it. If our players are in their positions then there should be no shortage of options around the ground or up fwd. Right now if we look for an option its either beside or behind us, except for a triple teamed Richo which just results in the ball rebounding back to us.

This crap about missing our ruckman, so what, concede the ruck contest and man mark the opposing on ballers, when they get we crunch them and turn it over, what do we do.... we know we are getting killed in the ruck but will still stand loose 2 meters from our opponents..... dumb footy Richmond TW wake up to yourself

If the opposition want to play loose men then man em up, if that means we have 12 fwds in the fwd half so be it, make a contest and keep it in the fwd 50.

We dont have the skills to play loose and sides that do dont win premierships so lets stop *smile* farting around and play man on man and make some of our guys accountable or *smile* them off.

that would have to be one of the most boring games of football i've ever watched! idont know who instigated the loose man in defence last night but i like to see the ball move from end to end and see goals kicked. isnt that why we play afl and not soccer? and we dont play that brand of football well anyway ,we get caught with the ball far to much through poor skills and poor options to play this high possesion chip chip game.

Top post Tango! What a waste of time a spare man in defence is for the team, young players, coaching staff and fans.

Young players do not learn the value of man on man football. Finals are never played that way!

If Plough wants to take us with him then stop the 7 man defence.

I am not interested in watching rubbish like last night.

We should vary our tactics to the point we are not predictable. Whether man on man or playing an extra in defence or whatever formation we should be prepared to take a risk and try to be different.

Seems strange we would try and be tricky and daring - when we can't even do the basics right.

Thats in skill all the way up to current game plans.

Why not experiment when the season is gone? I would.

For tactical reasons you can't do it relentlessly but we've got to go man on man more often. There is a price to pay for this as there aren't any sides we can beat at this game. But there's not point building the hopes of supporters on the back of cheating overlap footy-- look at what's happened to Footscray.

Agree, we gotta play fair dinkum.

UNfortuneately you need to play a spare against Brisbane to counter their matchwiner J Brown.

However, if you have one loose they do to. Unfortunately for us, or symtematic of us more likely, their loose player was BOG. (Drummond)

You can only play man on man for small portions of the game. If the opposition still holds out its flood or zone and then you cop it on the counter when they have a paddock in their forward line. But just like any strategy things change play by play.

The way the game is played now, you need runners behind the ball and then to counter out. There are less contests to kick to and more open men running around.

But i do agree, watching those footy tapes back from 95 is a lot more fun than watching anything today. Its all congested, run, run and run. I get worn out just watching them run. You cant do much about it.
