Micky Malthouse press conference

He knows that if his team gets smashed by the likes of Richmond at the clearance that they're in big trouble when they play teams who are both win a lot of clearances and (unlike Richmond) turn it over with monotonous regularity and put plenty of pressure on their opposition.

Rocky, the stats don't lie mate. They're not the be all and end all either but if you have any idea they can provide some pretty good insight.

well this clearances stat ( like most ) is very misleading , hearing malthouse go on about getting smashed in the clearances you would have thought richmond had won , hmmmmm another example of how stats " can lie "

How about " i think Jordan will bring pace and skill to the team"

Malthouse is rightly worried about his side's abilty to win the footy at the stoppages. They're *smile* at it. And generally *smile*. they were flogged in the contests by the reigning wooden-spooner today.

Disciplined, outside, second to the ball, defensive Malthouse side. Perimeter game players as much as any other. But not an inside team's airse.

The crowning glory of their 07 season was a loss. Not a hypothetical GF win or premiership.

So Collingwood is so *smile* that it glories in losses, tf06, is that right? Hey, are you arguing my case? ;D

Wallace said that we had started very badly in all 3 games this year.
Players were not instructed to handball so much. Needed to kick more. That would be looked at. Compared the kicks that Didak got in the last quarter were more than most of our team got in the whole match!

so i imagine that the players went against the gameplan...who is running the joint terry...

Grant Thomas made an excellent point on radio last week. Basically he said

- Richmond was easy to coach against becaue they are one dimensionl

- They are not a corridor team. They go wide

- Therefore, you can negate the flanks and smash them on the rebound when they turn it over

Simple really.

Except, Collingwood go wide as well. Every Malthouse team has.

This is Frawley-style coaching.

We review last week's errors (clearances), spend the whole week to improve them without realising that other weaknesses haven't been filled.

I didn't even realise we beat them at the stoppages. Geez we must have been really bad everywhere else then.

At least he has the courage to admit a problem that stems from his coaching;
Before the Carlton game, I made the point how important getting off to a good start in games was to Richmond;
Poor starts in any sport are the result of two things: Firstly, the psycological responsibility a coach has towards his players during the week &/ or before they run out and secondly, the initial difference in ability c.f the opposition.
In all three games, we have looked beaten prior to half time!!!
For these facts alone, Richmond have a poor list of footballers, who are noted slow starters against nearly all teams in the competition and a coach that is failing miserably to lift his troops.
You work out the rest.

On the clearance stats we'll get a better insight on Pro Stats, that reminds me I better make the Mrs a cuppa with her cup cakes, so she can give me the credit card.

The reality is Collingwood smashed us on the scoreboard

Do u want to win clearances or a game of football?

You've lost the jist of the thread. My point was that Collingwood are going to struggle to be a top-class side until they address their issues in the middle. You stated that they almost beat Geelong in a preliminary. I stated that you can't judge a team on one game. You turn it into something else completely.

With Richmond, the fact that we won clearances is a blight on Collingwood rather than Richmond's ability to win games. We know Richmond have alot of work to do in terms of skill regardless of our ability to win out of the middle.
