Spider has publically said he hates Richmond.

A 2 year deal on reasonable money would have him loving us I'm sure.
My thinking Dean to.A new 2 year deal will bring a new found love of the tigers.

What would he bring to the tigers? Particularly if he finished in two years? Who could we trade for him? For me, its a big gamble and not worth entertaining.

Unless Knoble to the hawks in a straight swap.

I'd rather gardiner than everitt. younger and would be a good fit changing in the ruck with simmo and standing in the goal square. west coast would be keen to get rid of gardiner, so would come cheap. Spider i reckon would ask for too much, and i reckon his body may be in decline.
I know he has issues, that why he'd be cheap. A new scenery and a one year deal, and surely he would go for it,knowing this is it.

Trent Knobel has re-signed for next year and is required...

do u know for sure that knobel is signed for next year? when did he do this?

if this is right it poses a problem. whilst knobel is a great tap ruckmen simmonds has shown his mobility around the ground is invaluable. how would knobel go being the 2nd man in the ruck rotation? his main problem is he rarely gets the ball around the ground.

in two of his finals appearances for st kilda in his last year there, while he dominated the hitouts he had zero possession. yes zero, for a whole game.

the question is do we revert back to knobes as no1 with simmo rotating in out of the forward line. or do we leave simmo at no1 and concede that knobes will do little around the ground, and split his time out of the ruck evenly between the forward/back line and the bench.

don't see it a problem.  when Knobel is rucking, we have a big advantage with Simmo at CHF or FF.  While Knoble is acknowledged as a "tap ruckman"  we need this type of player.  for example, if we are getting beaten in the centre square (when simmo is rucking and our midfielders aren't able to deliver), knoble provides a different approach (tap ball to our midfielders).    If we win the ball in the centre, there's isn't a big need for Knoble to be mobile.  We have too much fire power, Simmo will prove too strong,  as opposition players need to mark Richo, Shultz, Brown.  The other two Kayne and Kraks, their men will be too small to add value against Simmo.

knobes and simmo can do some damage together. but when knobes was taking the majority of the ruck in '05 simmo was struggling in the forward line, remember he has only really come good at tigerland this year, and we he did play well in '05 it was mainly his rucking that was doing the damage. there may be a bit more space for him there now with staf gone i suppose.

i just think knobes is a bit under-utilised as a no.2 ruckmen, would like to see him take no.1 and have simmo able to dominate a CHF position

maybe tw would be better off trading knobes for a KPB and trying to get someone like a michael gardiner at a bargain price?

whatever happens in the ruck ranks i think tw will still want 2 experienced ruckmen ahead of patto, he's not ready yet to take over no.1 in case of injury

Put Knoble in the Polak deal...Polak played a sensational game as a pinch hit ruckman in the derby at the start of the year....probably his best match...he could rotate from CHB with SImmo and Patto through the forward half. Knoble is pre-historic and his tap work isnt in the same league as everitt or lade so i cant understand the hype over him.

....wont happen though.

Exactly.
If Knobel is traded, it will be for a draft pick. Gardiner then comes into the equation.

i think there's no doubt we will go after polak. and i think there's a good chance we'll get him. but we'll be going after him as a KPB and at the most yes, a pinch hitter in the ruck.

whilst i think knobes will stay at the tiges just to safeguard us against injury, i do believe there's an outside chance that he will be traded for either another ready-made KPB, or an early draft pick from a club desperately a tap ruckmen ie sydney, which would in-turn free up later picks for trade.

if this happens i think we'll look at gardiner at a bargain price.

Knobel's been completely ineffectual this year, and with Stafford retiring, if we can get Everitt for a decent price it's worth considering IMO. Not sold on Patto yet, still very raw.

Miller's doing the right thing by talking to him.

I can't imagine he'd be after a fortune as his career winds down.
More than handy to have him running off the bench.

Biggest concern are his injury problems, so would have to get him fully checked out.

Interesting..

Exactly ToO. Miller will talk, and probably already has done so, to a lot of people. He would be derelect in his duties if he did not. Just because he talks to them doesn't necessarily mean we are pursuing them, or even seriously interested.

But as DDT said just maybe they were meeting about other business interests.

Or god forbid maybe they just happen to know each other and had a freindly lunch together.

I know many blokes who have had lunch with many a lovely maiden, but doesn't mean they signed any of them. ;)

yeah they have had off field problems but do have the tools to potentially improve the tiges.

thats if tw and gm could get them going in the right direction

at least their off field problems would bring down their demanding price

don't know if we necessarily need gardiner but polak is worth a shot
