PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

What a miserable bunch of supporters! Yes we are all feeling it, it was not the result we had all been hoping for all summer but it is one game, and one game only. We have all seen it happen a hundred times when two evenly matched teams play and there is a blowout. A result like this is abnormal. It is a statiscal anomaly. That is all we can deduce from this match at this point in time.

Instead all I read is how crap we are (past years, this year and future years), how many players should be cut, who has no heart, who has no skill, who has no right to be wearing the jumper. No-one at the club is proud of the result last night. I am certain the players are ashamed and embarassed. But does one poor performance on the first night of a new season really warrant all these calls for blood-letting. I think not.

We only have to go back to 2004 to see a similar first round hiding. In that case Essendon was destroyed by Port Adelaide 158 to 62. But their season was not over. They played on and Essendon made the finals that year. I am not saying that this will be the case for the Tigers in 2006, but I am also not writing them off. There are 21 rounds to go.

Let's get behind the side and show them our support. This is the side we have got for the year so it is the least we can do.
