I'd go for Matthews for 3 years. That said, whoever coaches the Tigers from 2010 onwards has to be a REAL HARDNUT. Somebody who is prepared to tell the players what is going to be and if the players don't bloody like it or won't do it, show them the door.
Biggest problem really is that no club is prepared to sack a player during a playing season before it leaves them one short. That means the player can slack off, go and do some study, find a job whatever, do the minimum in terms of training and playing, still get well rewarded for it, so where is the incentive motivation for a player to actually perform.
Clubs should be allowed to sack players during the season the AFL should set a limit on this say 3 players, then allow Clubs to pick up a couple of rookie players during the season instead to cover those sacked. That way players are on official notice that they can be sacked by a club if they don't or won't perform, do something stupid like Didak etc. Right now players can pretty much do anything and get away with, whilst the poor ole member, sponsor and supporters have to put up with such antics.
Nope, its time Richmond got tough, that starts at Board Level by finding a REAL HARDNUT coach, a coach is not going to take no for an answer and will drill the players into the ground if necessary to get the message thru that winning is the only way to go.
Chances of that happening, I reckon ZERO.
