PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

A quiet day - with still 5 weeks until the NAB round 1 ;)

I'm sure there is a specific Morton thread somewhere - but I thought I'd start a fresh one to discuss some specific points.

I noted in another post a vitriolic criticism of TW in selecting Morton (instead of drafting youth?)

Having spent the last week watching our winning games of 2008 (didn't save the losses), I am surprised by the negative comments that PREenders throw at him.

Lets see if I've got it right:

- Turns 22 in two weeks (he is very young)
- kicked 35 goals in 2008 (equal 2nd highest with legend Nathan Brown)

Yet - everyone seems to love Jack Riewoldt??? (one year younger - only managed 18 goals!!!)

I imagine there will be criticism of his defensive play (a little like Pettifer), however you only need to watch the Hawthorn game to realise that he has had his horoscope read - and is working hard on this flaw.

I can't say the same about Riewoldt - in fact watching the 2008 games again - I'm curious why he has such a fan base (although I like/admire the reports that he is an extrovert character around the club).

I'm of the firm belief that Morton has potential to be a 50 goaler in 2009, and if he works on defensive skill will prove to be the more adept/valuable contributor.

Thoughts?
