Struggs you'd have to be pretty happy with ST so far. Every one of your ML hitters is looking fantastic. If Murton continues his progression, Pie is the real deal (looking good so far) and Guzman and Samardzija can contribute it could be a very good year for you. Of course, add Prior and Wood healthy and throwing well to that and it could be a great year, but I don't think many Cubs fans are holding their breath waiting for that to happen.
Pleased but not excited.
I think the Cubs will be a great side to watch, with a potentially great offence.
If Lee, Soriano,Barrett and A-Ram get thumpin' then guys like Murton De Rosa and Jones should be able to cash in.
If Soriano can lead the NL with homers at RFK then he'll put balls a block back from the OF wall at Wrigley.
Throw in old Cliff Floyd if he's fit enough then well see loads of runs on the medway.
Problem being excluding Lee and Izturis (whos low power) the Cubbies are poor defensively.
I expect to see a lot of games won and lost into double figure runs for both sides.
Their outfield arms of Murton,Soriano and Jones are *smile* poor to be honest.
The pitching that looked unbeatable 3-4 years ago looks brittle, and downright ordinary if the big Z goes down(God help us :nailbiting perish the thought)
In a perfect world Z, Wood Prior Lilly and Hill would be a dominant rotation if fit.
Reality suggests Prior is *smile* both physically and mentally, Wood is more than likely going to make cameos from the pen and maybe even close if he holds together....would be an awesome closer IMO.
Lilly is unknown in the NL, but being a flyball pitcher at Wrigley scares me.
Hill is OK, but nothing really better than a 5th starter.
Marquis is coming off a horror season and i've no faith in him at all.
Dempster lost the plot last year too....lost faith there too.
Obviously Da Cubbies will improve, but not contend.
2 decent starters either midseason or next would go a long way toward solving that.
On Guzman and Pie, they're both highly touted and supposedly injury free and making solid progress.
We'll see....the Cubs fans are like Richmonds when it comes to overrating players.
One bloke the fans love is The Riot....Ryan Theriot.
Supposedly has real game and hustle, and can put a charge into the ball.
Lets follow him this season and see if he tracks upwards.
