Sorry missed this earlier Red. From all reports this is a move that Papelbon made himself, so not sure that it's preempting another move from Epstein. That said though the Sox have alot more depth for the rotation than they had for the pen, especially with Timlin going down for a while, so the FO must be pretty happy right now. They'll give the 5th spot to Tavarez or more preferably Snyder and we can all wait and hope that Lester comes back looking as good as he did last year.

Just finished my fantasy draft too. Drew the short end of the straw picking 11th out of 12, but reckon I did OK, especially with Lee at pick 47

1 David Wright (3B, NYM)
2 Jason Bay (OF, PIT)
3 Johnny Damon (OF, NYY)
4 Derrek Lee (1B, CHC)
5 Chone Figgins (3B, OF, LAA)
6 Los Angeles Dodgers (P, LAD)
7 Mike Piazza (C, OAK)
8 Ray Durham (2B, SF)
9 Felipe Lopez (SS, WSH)
10 Luis Castillo (2B, MIN)
11 David Eckstein (SS, STL)
12 Cleveland Indians (P, CLE)
13 David Ross (C, CIN)
14 Rocco Baldelli (OF, TB)
15 Morgan Ensberg (3B, HOU)

Lee has been batting .512 at spring camp Patsy.
Good news for both of us I'd say.
A little suprised you've got so many NL players in,as I thought the AL would be your forte.
FWIW I like your side and really only don't know much about Baldelli and Ross.
I gave you the heads up on The Riot as well and you left him out.......you'll pay for that blue ;)

How is it you get entire pitching staffs?
I know the Dudgers are good, how are the tribes shaping up?

Re: MLB 2007 - Say NO to Clemens

Punting on the young indians staff living up to expectations, and Sabathia is usually good for 15+ wins. Theriot was gone early, 3rd round I think. Obviously another mad Cubby fan ;D.

This comp is a bit differnet to the usual one with scores weighted to hitters so you get the whole staff to make up for it. Not a bad idea I suppose otherwise the drafts would take forever.

Re: MLB 2007 - Say NO to Clemens

First time i've got into the fantasy ball.

2006 Points Projected PointsPos Player Points
P Tigers 698.5
C I. Rodriguez 421
1B R. Sexson 545
2B R. Durham 503
3B M. Cabrera 651
SS M. Young 572
OF J. Bay 635
OF J. Drew 520
OF M. Ordonez 512
Bn Phillies 323.5
Bn M. Jacobs 404
Bn O. Hudson 490
Bn H. Blalock 455
Bn J. Wilson 344
Bn R. Baldelli 343

Pretty happy with who I got.

Nice little summary on Prior from the mlb.com

By now, even your grandmother knows that Prior is a superbly talented pitcher who can't stay healthy. So what's in store for the embattled right-hander in 2007? As usual, he's currently working his way back from an injury (shoulder tendinitis), and it's unclear whether he'll be ready for Opening Day. If you're the optimistic type, then it's worth noting that Prior -- a former Cy Young runner-up who is still only 26 -- is NOT recovering from any kind of recent surgery, so he could at least be healthy by the start of the season. Just ask yourself whether it's worth pulling the trigger on a pitcher who has already landed on the disabled list a whopping eight times in his brief career.

Well lets hope Snyder is given the job ahead of Tavarez. Cant stand Tavarez.

Speaking of Snyder, after one of the games at Fenway that I went to last year, he hung around the dugout for about 30 mins or so signing autographs. I thought about getting him to sign my program, but thought "Nah...I wont bother." Seeing as how his stocks have risen, maybe I should have ! Seemed like a nice guy. Was having a chat with everyone etc. Seriously tall dude.

What about 2b ? I reckon that is still a bit of a gap for us. I'm not sure about Pedroia. I know he's only young so he might come on, and there are some big projections for him this year, but I saw him in 4 games last year over in the States and he looked completely out of his depth at the plate - something a number of scouts have questioned and whether he is a genuine Major Leaguer. All this talk of being another Eckstein is very premature imo. That leaves Cora, another guy who, whilst pretty good defensively, doesnt bring much to the plate either.

Should we have kept Loretta Duckman ?

Re: MLB 2007 - Say NO to Clemens

Nah, I think this is the way to go. Give him the year batting 9th to see what he can do. If he handles it he becomes extremely valuable piece of the dynasty puzzle given he's cost controlled for probably 4 or 5 more years. If he's really bad (.500OPS or worse at the ASB I guess) then they'd probably be forced into a move but his minor league numbers give no indication that he can't perform at the highest level. His MLB numbers last year were ordinary but only in a very small sample and he apparently wasn't 100% fit.

Re: MLB 2007 - Say NO to Clemens

Was in Boston over the weekend...

Went to a local sports store - Dice-K crap everywhere. The most interesting (and possibly a future purchase) was a T-shirt in Japanese. Presumably it said Red Sox on the Front, and Dice-K on the back..

In a couple of weeks am taking my father on a tour of Fenway - trying to convert a Yank Fan.

Re: MLB 2007 - Say NO to Clemens

soon i will be going to NY and the week i am there the yankees are playing Texas. Who should i root for?

Re: MLB 2007 - Say NO to Clemens

Sort off, except Collingwood's only crime is that they're a bunch of wankers.

Re: MLB 2007 - Say NO to Clemens

No Kenny Rogers for a couple of weeks.
Would have to be his last time around this year.

Was looking at buying an Australia jumper from shop.mlb.com
Only $19.97 US but a whopping $51.00 US to get it over here.

Make sure you snag yourself a foul(or home run if your really lucky) ball Pesto.

Re: MLB 2007 - Say NO to Clemens

WoW!

The Tribune agrees to sell up for 8.2 Billion US! :o
The Baby Bears will also get sold at the end of the year.

So the fans were right!
They opened the purse strings to compete so the price would rise.
All too predictable.

Re: MLB 2007 - Say NO to Clemens

Should be good news for the Cubs. There'll be a bunch of billionaires cueing up to try and be the one to bring a WS to Wrigley.

King Felix had a decent outing today. The less said about the rest of opening day the better though.

Ben Sheets threw a 2 hitter as well.

Yes the fans on the message blogs are delighted Patsy.
The estimates are $600 mill plus whatever CNS cable is value at.

The Mark Cuban rumours are circulating again after he was sniffing about last year.

No joy for the Cubs, Red Sox or Tigers which means we are a quiet lot huh?
