MLB 2012 - Giants Win!!

I agree with all of that.

Teams like the Red Sox and Cubs short change themselves of revenue because of their unwillingness to move away from their historic roots and play in larger stadiums with oodles of expensive corporate boxes. However, that decision to me is a wiser one in the longer run for the aforementioned reasons ie disenfranchising fans, corporatisation etc.

I hope the Red Sox never move from Fenway.

One of the reasons the Stink have such a higher revenue earning base than the other teams is the fact they have taken their brand to the world. Around the world, they sell umpteen times more merchandise than teams like the Red Sox, Cubs, Cardinals etc. do. Its up to these teams to market themselves more globally than nationally.

But part of that successful global marketing involves winning i.e. global recognition of baseball teams comes with winning. And that in turn is why the Stink are always prepared to spend whatever it takes to win. They know that if they don’t spend to win, they’ll lose twice as much via some of their revenue streams – such as merchandise.

Stink. I hope Detroit belt them.

Indeed- how dreary is the new Emirates Stadium for Arsenal. Compared to Highbury's close quarters, you can barely spot a spectator on TV- and that will affect support for those watching from TV. The reason the Cubs and Redsocks continue to be nationally supported is at least partly because supporters from other areas like watching a game being played on these fields. I have been to comerica, and it is lovely, fantastic facilities, great parking- and as dull as hell. Old tiger stadium was crap, but fun to go to.
Team like the Cubs and Redsocks are limiting their gat but make up for it in TV rights, merchandise and finally- they are institutions same from form slumps, buy outs and the greater forces of the game. The cubs have conclusively proven that their success is not linked to form!

Ha Ha so very true!!

Not so surprising that tickets to both grounds are hard to find either.
Apparently fans of rival sides make the pilgrammage for home stands at these grounds more than any other as well (along with Stink Stadium for different reasons)

When my EPL side Fulham were endevouring to move from their spiritual home Craven Cottage in 2001,the opposing fans group Back to the Cottage used Wrigley field as an example of 'Home' Vs 'Stadia' during the court battle.

Re: MLB 2006

I went to Chase Field (the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks) for 4 games when I was over in the States recently. It is an amazing facility. Truly amazing. And even though it was built BEFORE Telstra Dump here in Melbourne, it puts crappy stadiums like that to shame.

However, compared to the likes of Fenway Park (which I’ve been to 4 times now), there is simply no comparison. The traditional parks crap all over some of the new ones for atmosphere etc.

I can understand wanting to play in a brand new stadium if you are someone like the Oakland A’s who are playing in a dilapidated 1960’s stadium that is crumbling apart, but otherwise, clubs like the Red Sox and Cubs should do everything to keep their traditional early 1900’s parks alive and healthy.

Just the tradition, history and atmosphere inside and out of these grounds is sensational.

And their most valuable asset. Teams like the A's don't trade off their tradition anyway, so nothing to lose there. I think the Tigers would have liked to stay at Tiger Stadium, but being really old and located RIGHT in the ghetto meant they did not have much of a choice. If you look at the white sox though- they moved and it basically killed them as a traditional club (and a pretender to the biggest club in Chicago). Their park is still in a dodgy neighbourhood, except without the tradition of old Comiskey.

Re: MLB 2006

Detroit went down to the Wankees 8-4, and game 2 got rained out last night, so playing next day (arvo). Not looking good in a best of 5! >:(

C'mon :gotigers

Re: MLB 2006

Relax Graham. Tiges win second game.

1-1 is a good result in the Toilet (as the late and great Duckman used to call it).

Looking good 8)

Re: MLB 2006

Another cracker today from the Tiges. Love to see them go to the series and with Kenny Rogers yet to pitch, they must be a big chance. Fantastic.
