Today I attended a function to raise money for a cancer stricken former player/coach/president and all round good guy from my former suburban football club. The guy has terminal cancer, 3 kids, no job and no money but the local Diamond Valley area rallied around to help the him out. To my inital shock but ultimate pride the main auction prize on the day was a 2 day stint as TW's assistant. This included attending Friday's training session and meeting the players and coaching staff followed up be attending the players meeting on the Saturday prior to a game and ultimately spending the day in the RFC coaches box.

Well done Terry and the RFC for donating the prize. It ultimately attracted a winning bid of $4,500, some $4,400 more after jb bowed out of the bidding.

i have it on authority it was alistair clarkson

Connelly might of been a silent bidder by all reports..... :hihi  :hihi But serioursly well done TW and the RFC for such a great jeasture. They have been fantastic lately in helping those in real need. :clap :clap

One thing I can report is that the current coach of the Northern Knights was there, a former assistant at the Calder Cannons last year and boy, did he have some wraps on Matthew White.  Better than Hartigan and Rodan apparently.

Well done to Terry and the club, and all the best to the guy from your club jb, and his family. :clap :clap :clap

Thanks for letting us know about this jb.

Its great to see the transformation pre season. Positive news all round. I really hope the guys learn from the courage of the people they have touched over the past few weeks and fight the fight and astound people with what can be achieved with courage and determination.

A big season is on the cards if they can draw strength from young Tyler, JB's mate and the people that Richo and Browny met in Ballarat. Great to see Chaff and Tiva going out and supporting those who will fight back from the loss of the fire. Damn its touching....much more rewarding than last years news!

I was talking to a truckie at work today and asked him who he followed in the footy.  He told me Collingwood but was strongly changing his view towards the Tigers.

I asked why and he told me his son is part of the Very Special Kids Foundation and has met all the players and staff of Richmond many times as part of the relationship the club have with that organisation.

He said Browny and Bowden are A+ characters, and said Nathan is like a little kid in a mans body.  Said his son was playing basketball against NB one day and nathan was trash talking him and rubbing it in when he scored.  (Obviously in good spirit though.)

Also said the club is highly respected for it's value of junior members and it is common knowledge amongst a lot of general football public.  Truckies obviously talk a lot about footy.

Anyway, he mentioned his son had been taken to training several times, and has even been in the rooms with the players before the game.  he was just so gobsmacked that he was part of it.

Paul, the truckie, said RFC have turned his world around full circle due to their kindness and time spent with the kids.

For a Collingwood supporter to say that, we must be doing bloody well.  FWIW, his son is obviously an avid Richmond supporter.

Well done to RFC.  I know this relationship is going for a while now, but it just goes to show that it is entirely worth it.

Good of TW to offer up a prize & the winner apparently is coaching locally so I'm sure he will get huge benefit out of it.

Great work boys. Good to see the Valley supporting there own and the RFC supporting the community as a whole.

Good work JB and well done RFC and TW!!

There is not enough good news these days and well done to all who dipped into their wallets!!!
