Movies

Ed Wood was my favourite. Martin Landau was so good as Bela Lugosi. I didn't like Sweeney Todd, it looked like a Burton movie, all dark and brooding, loads of blood, weird leads, Depp and Bonham Carter had surprisingly good voices, but there was just nothing to actually enjoy about it all.

I can't think of one film he's made that I liked.

I was actually talking about Hollywood in general.

Burton is at the very least intresting if nothing else.

'No country for old men' is a belter.Would've got a 10 if not for the last 20 minutes.

Thats the Coen brothers for you i suppose.

Maybe the best flick of 2007

It's probably my favourite Coen Bros ATM, evo. It goes for two hours. Feels like ten minutes.

That last twenty minutes is pretty much Cormac McCarthy's fault, if my mail is right. In their defence, the brothers are allegedly remaining truthful to the novel, and, maybe less defensibly, are almost certainly big fans of the thing.

I haven't read it and don't reckon I will. The Road was meh enough for me.

But IMO if you are a Coen Bros fan, ya gotta see No Country at the cinema. Might have almost run its race so get ya skates on.

Agree with the other fans of Bardem's performance. (People may remember him from Perdita Durango.) Josh Brollin was excellent, I reckon.

I was very pleased to read that No Country, with its challenging moments and only one big(gish) name star, is the Bros' highest grossing film to date. It eclipsed Oh Brother in mid January with a gross of just under $50m.

2 films that I want to see this weekend - both with a Texas theme.

1. Charlie Wilson's War - a drunkan Texan Senator and his influence on world politics.

2. The Daniel Day Lewis film about a Texan Oil miner.

Hopefully, I can get to see both.

Just started watching the HBO war mini series Band of Brothers that was on a few years back but never caught when it was on.
Absolutely beautiful production. Looks amazing on DVD.

Great so far.

band of brothers is incredible

really brings home what a lottery a war is, for the people involved

But please...also read the book ...do not let the DVD do all the work

I watched teh Bucket List and quite liked it. Jack was typical Jack and Morgan was typically Morgan. Very good.

Saw the latest Western on the block 3:10 to Yuma last night.

I don't usually go for this genre but I thought it was really good.

Good plot, action and suspense but terrific acting performances by Christian Bale & particularly Rusty Crowe.
Young Ben Foster is also an up and coming talent.

Worth seeing for sure.
4/5

Just saw this - fantastic film and a great Western. Russ was sensational.

If you like westerns, an absolute must.

4.5/5

Absolutely agree, I have watched the whole series twice and read the Stephen Ambrose book recently (thanks Santa!). I have a much better understanding of that period of history now.

Dunno if you've had a look at There Will Be Blood yet, Phanto. I gave it a not bad.

For those thinking about going IMO it's worth a look and is well suited to the big screen. Some excellent photography. Landscape is really good. Although that El Paso feel is getting around a bit ATM. One of the flaws of the film is that the landscape is too passive, that it doesn't make a significant contribution to anything but the beauty of the pictures.

DDL is very good. But there is a funny thing happening with his voice. Reminds me a lot of Prof Farnsworth's (Futurama). Some critic suggested he ripped it from John Huston.

The music is probably bad. It's very obtrusive, that's for sure. Makes it hard to tell if it's bad music or just badly placed. Hmm. The music is bad.

I was convinced it had run for three odd hours with half an hour to go. Turns out the run time is 160 minutes.

Some unforgettable scenes and scenery. But the screenwriter did not nail it IMO.

I can understand why some of its critics think the film is a swizz. And why others recommend it.

Watched Paul Newman's The Hustler last night.

Haven't seen it for years, it's still a brilliant movie that holds up today.

George C Scott is also excellent in his role as Bert Gordon.

Give it a go if you haven't seen this classic.

Transformers NOT winning Best Visual Effects?

Bollocks. Sheer bollocks.

agreed, should have won easily although it does mean we dont have to listen to michael bays rantings about how good is movie is ;D

Sat through 'Shoot 'em Up.' last night with Clive Owen.

I really have no idea what to make of it.

Totally over the top parody of action films.
Funny in parts, shockingly stupid in others.
:headscratch

Not sure I can recommend it. **

Yeah,i thought it was pretty ordinary too Too

Clive Owen should be selecting better roles than that these days.

Watched Juno the other night.

Ok, I fail to see what all the hype is about though.
