Movies

Saw Zohan down at the Dendy tonight.

A nice filip after today's game.

In true Adam Sandler style, very funny. Tarturro & Schneider were very good as well.

Deep & meaningful too.
It's not the ordinary people who cause major wars.
More often than not it's some rich bugger looking to make a quid or two.

Took the kids to Kung Fu Panda today.

Normal Dreamworks - professionally done and nice story. Kids (7 & 4) had a laugh which is the main thing.

Good school holiday fare.

Saw the hulk with the young bloke today--usual carp.

'Michael Clayton' --some might find it a little slow paced but i thought it was excellent 8.5/10.Good value Clooney.

Agree evo, excellent flick.

Clooney did some great work in Goodnight and Good Luck as well, worth checking out.

went and saw the new mike leigh film "happy go lucky" with sally hawkins at the classic cinema in Elsternwick.More of an art house movie, but thoroughly entertaining nevertheless.set in th uk it tells the story of a thirty something primary school teacher and her infectious "happy go lucky" attitude.something our current society could do with a little i think.
anyway i do recommend it ,although i must admit the cinema was hardly full.

Did anyone enjoy Valentine's Day on the ABC on Sunday night? It was based on a footy team in Rushworth. It would hardly feature at the Oscars but I reckon it was wonderful. A bit of light hearted fun. It's a pity Aussie film makers don't get good funding these days because a lot of talent is going to waste.

I think many get funding Rosy but they just make crap.

I'm not so sure jb. The Australian Film C(whatever they're called) have bemoaned the fact they aren't funded anymore to make the mini-series that used to feature on the ABC in years gone by. There were some wonderful ones. Changi and Brides of Christ are 2 that come to mind. Not so much movies as such I suppose but the talent is obviously there to make movies if they were funded more. I'd certainly be happy for my 8 cents a day to be used for that purpose.

Movies I've seen over the last week or 2:

Get Smart: so much promise so little return. You have to play Smart as Maxwell Smart was in the tv series, no room for "interpretations". So Carells "softening" didn't cut it for me. Smart wasn't bumbling enough or sharp enough.

Hancock: Starts well with Will Smith as a flawed, alcoholic superhero but pads out as some love story....blah!

Death at a funeral: a widely acclaimed comedy I watched on dvd the other night. Mildly funny by my books with the main humour coming from Alan Dudyks portrayal as a drug affected fiance providing the most laughs.

I quite liked it Rosy. Nothing that made you think too much but good fun.

I wonder when they shot it? The rainy days for the games was interesting as we haven't had too many of them!

I thought that too Royce. It's a long time since any footy grounds up this way have been in that condition.

Footy scenes were filmed at Mt Evelyn.

Interesting point. We have made some outstanding TV shows but few outstanding movies. Not sure why that is.

Yup although I did enjoy the movie as a whole. They entirely missed the point of Max as an incompetent who succeeds through divine providence. The movie Max is extremely competent, just clumsy. However apart from that point I did think Carell nailed Max as a character without attempting to mimic Don Adams.

The only other movie I've seen recently is Mongol, the first in a planned trilogy about Genghis Khan. Very good camerawork and scenery and fight scenes but some poor writing. The plot is repetitive and I understand some of the major parts of the movie are not historically accurate at all.

A series I have been getting right into of late is Californication.
Pretty edgy TV, I reckon it's great. 8)

Also finished S3 of Prison Break. Not as good as the first two seasons but entertaining none the less.
