Yup although I did enjoy the movie as a whole. They entirely missed the point of Max as an incompetent who succeeds through divine providence. The movie Max is extremely competent, just clumsy. However apart from that point I did think Carell nailed Max as a character without attempting to mimic Don Adams.

The only other movie I've seen recently is Mongol, the first in a planned trilogy about Genghis Khan. Very good camerawork and scenery and fight scenes but some poor writing. The plot is repetitive and I understand some of the major parts of the movie are not historically accurate at all.

I seem to remember watching an interview with the dorector of Mongol on the Movie show and him saying the reason it's going to be a 3 parter was that there's such a big story to tell and that he wanted to make it historically accurate!

Movies I've seen over the last week or 2:

Get Smart: so much promise so little return. You have to play Smart as Maxwell Smart was in the tv series, no room for "interpretations". So Carells "softening" didn't cut it for me. Smart wasn't bumbling enough or sharp enough.

Hancock: Starts well with Will Smith as a flawed, alcoholic superhero but pads out as some love story....blah!

Death at a funeral: a widely acclaimed comedy I watched on dvd the other night. Mildly funny by my books with the main humour coming from Alan Dudyks portrayal as a drug affected fiance providing the most laughs.

hmmm I was really looking forward to Hancock, you are talking me out of it

The actor from Death at a Funeral is Alan Tudyk. Good actor from Firefly and Serenity (both great if you like sci fi)

Went a saw the documenatry "SALUTE" this evening at the Rivoli cinema in Camberwell. The movie is about the 200 metres at the Mexico Olympics. This event for those who dont know was won by a black american ,with Australian peter norman finishing second, and third place was another black american.
What followed at the presentation ceremony is what the movie is about. The two black athletes gave the black power salute ,and Peter Norman wore a human rights badge in sympathy.
All three athletes were snubbed by their respective countries as a result of this gesture.
Peter norman had the 5th fastest time in the world and won all major races in Australia, and wasnt selected for the 72 Munich Olympics. Also he wasnt given an invite for the 2000 sydney olympics, and played no part in the ceremony.his time in the 68 olympics still stood as australias fastest for that event at least until the 2000 olympics.
This was quite a touching documentary and I rate it very highly.if you get a chance see it and learn something about our not so distant past, something i knew very little about.

Thanks barty. Great story that. The three athlestes remained close from memory with one of the americans I think flying out for Norman's funeral.

Jb you are correct.one at least of the Americans came out for the funeral and in fact carried the coffin. Also the US national athletics association has named October (cant remember the exact date)as Peter Norman day.the only time the usa has done this.

Thanks for the tip Bevo.
Am watching this series atm from S1. Very good so far.

The characters are great.

I am just about to start season five.

For me this show surpasses the Soporano's. Could rattle on about it for days. Such a accurate story of the the drug trade and how it affects the entire community, from the slums to the city hall.

It's brilliant TV for sure Scooper.
I'm going to go down to my market and buy the rest of the series tonight.
If you remember it, it was the chess scene in series 1 where I was won over.

I'm another who loves The Wire, best TV show ever IMHO. The depth of its examination of the city of Baltimore is almost astonishing.

I saw a top film last night called Zodiac.

True story about a San Francisco serial killer from the late 60's which remains unsolved.

A movie to steer clear of?

Meet Dave.

Absolutely awful! Unfunny, cliched. Margaret and David gave it a good review so I went in hoping the best but aaarrrgggghhh! Crap!

Anyone see TDK yet?

Very very good , a clear upgrade on Batman Begins(not that BB wasn't good)

Ledger was as good as everyone has been saying... :(

The Dark Knight. One of the best movies I have ever seen. Ledger is amazing. Just cannot put into words how good he is in this film. Makes his death even more tragic, he hadn't even peaked.

He was good wasn't he? Stole the show.
I was captivated by every scene he was in. Defo my highlight.

Though TDK was good, I'm not as sold as some that it was a great flick overall.
Kind of preferred BB in some ways but won't go into it here.
Plenty of people are raving about it, so go see it & make up your own mind.

Agree. Heath made the one and only Jack Nicholson look decidely subpar as the joker. If he doesnt win an oscar i will be very suprised. I am going back again just to see it without all the teenie boppers.

Thanks for the heads up NYT,dunno how I missed this one.

Love a good heist movie,me.
