Moving right along to next week

Next week will be different because we will not contest, fumble, NOT SHEPARD, not tackle,... and get betten by a large margin.. But this time it will be at Kardinia park.

And we will be expected to accept that garbage with MORE EXCUSES.

Moving right along, nothing to see here! Come back after the cats game, where we will be cut up by another Ablett again!

Your comment about Morton is right,he made the most of it,regarding schulz ,he kicked 1.1 and gave 2 away,so IMO he did not fail dismally. When shifted back he did not do what everyone else did i.e made a turnover. And for those into the dreamteam stats, his score was in the top third.even better than riewoldts. There were many more worse failures on the night.

I said he was a dismal failure in the forward line, not on the night. Which is significant since a number believe his future position at Richmond is full forward. And do you really think Schulz played better than Reiwoldt on the night? Because dreamteam stats say so? Reiwoldt and Morton, both 20 yo, and with limited opportunities (just as Schulz had) were both more prominent in the forward line in the first half than our 7th year 24yo. Schulz will not make it as a forward in my opinion. If anything key backline is his position as he does have very good disposal. I'd trial him there ahead of McGuane who often gets found out when there is extra pressure. It's a case of the lesser of two evils. Looking forward to the maturing of Rance and Post in the future to see whether we can address our key position issues in the backline.

While we are at it let's move right along to Round 3 against the doggies.

They have just hammered the shockers in the west by 10 goals.

Yep isn't it great to have footy back, we know we can rely on thumpings week in week out, year in year out.

Moving right along does anybody have anything else to say before the Geelong game?
Yes/ No? Whichever way, we can always raise the same minutes in our next meeting.
Anyway, I'm in a hurry. I've got to get to another meeting regarding the Richmond Football Club.

I'm even willing to give Schulz some more chances early this year in the forward line but on Thursday night he played a fair stint as the key forward and failed dismally before being moved. Think he only had 3 or 4 possessions whilst there. Most of his possessions were gained once he was taken out of the forward line (and he was much more serviceable...relativlely speaking of course). Wasnt a great night to play forward but Morton did manage to make the most of it.

I think that's a pretty balanced post from you re Sarge's forward line effort the other night Goodies.
It's true that Morton(4 goals) was outstanding up front making the most of his few opportunities however don't forget Jay gave him one off as well.
I'm not making excuses for Jay's ordinary output but let's face facts we were absolutely smashed in the midfield in the first half when he was up forward. Even the goal he was lucky to get was from broken play.
Inside 50 delivery to our KPFs was non existent to sh!thouse.

However if Schulz remains in the team next weekend, it's not going to get any easier for him against Scarlett, Ablett and co.
As a senior forward he's now got to make the most of any opportunities he gets to justify his place and if he's kicking points from rare chances he'll be dropped like a hot spud.

We can't beat Geelong in the midfield, but we can attack from the back when we get the ball.

How about more fixed roles for certain players to start.

Look at Jackson on Judd, was given a job, was very disciplined and in the end was clearly outclassed. The good thing about that is it leaves you no doubts about a players ability in contested situations (finals football) and you can make a judgement call on them.

Allowing others to constantly play loose and pick up easy kicks never lets you see what they can "really do" in consistent contested situations.

This week I would like to see Tambling on Chapman, he is the same height and Chapman is no monster over his head but Tambling is giving up 8kgs.
3 things would come out of this.
1) Can Tambling show enough class in a 1 on 1 defensive roll to take on a class fwd?
2) Can Tambling punish a team on the rebound from HBF with his pace?
3) Tambling may realise how many more weights he needs to lift to really get strong over the ball.

Deliedio on Stevey J.
1) I'm confident Lids can handle Steve J 1-on-1 in contested situations but will Stevey J outsmart him with his play off the ball. If not, then Lids could tear him up on the rebound as Steve J is no speedster in a defensive role and provide great attack off the Back Flank.

Rance play on Gamble if he is out of the square and run like the clappers supporting Lids, Tambling etc. on the rebound. Gamble is no athlete yet and Rance could blow him out.

The rest of the match up's as usual...McGuane on Mooney (Mooney does not have the class to take advantage of McGuane's deficiencies), Moore/Thursfield on Lonergan or other FF, Newman take small FWD, get rid of McMuffin.

Mids man up 1-on-1 and make it scrappy so even though Geelong will beat them overall the ball enters their FWD line from under pressure kicks where we can attack form defense with the run. Basically, I'm saying accept they will have about 70 inside 50's, just make 55 of them 40+ metre kicks under some sort of pressure rather than giving them 50 inside 50's with 35 of them wide open 25m chip kicks that they will hit fwd targets with 90% of the time. To do this put Foley on Ablett, Tuck on Bartel, Matthew White on Selwood (God help us we have noone else), Polo on Corey (if he play mid), Jackson on Ling (maybe this is a bit fairer on Jacko than Judd, Ling is less classy but gutsy as hell, Jacko should do better here), if Ling wants to run on Foley, fantastic, more players jammed around Ablett.

Simmonds must play as much football as possible all day... sorry Browne or Gus but you'll both get obliterated by Ottens or Blake. Minimul minutes for the 2nd ruck until Patto is available.

Richo must play deep fwd, with 2 designated rovers who are not allowed to lead for the ball in their own right, Nathan Brown is one, I'd prefer Nahas (Drop Browne back)

Riewoldt play High HF with Thursfield at CHF cos, he will compete more than Jay. If he can't do that then swap Moore and him. We need someone who can hold the ball up for the midgets and Jay can't do it. Noone else is ready so one of Moore or Thursty has to do it.

Of the rest, players are selected on this rule. If you are a midget you must have phenomenal skills. If you have average skills then you must be tough as nails and on of the top 5 tacklers in the team and have phenomenal defensive pressure. So, Edwards, you're lucky to stay cos' until you put on weight or get better disposal the target is on you but because the other guys are injured you get another chance over JB. Collins, you alo get your chance. Schulz, you're out, Hislop you're in. I'd rather play small and be competitive than watch you anymore.

I'm assuming Connors and Thompson are still unavailable cos' they would both be automatic swaps for Nahas and Jackson.

Team: This week
Unavailable: Connors, Cotchin, Cleve, Thompson, Patto & Coughlan (more time)

B: Newman (Stokes) Moore (Lonergan) Rance (Gamble)
HB: Tambling (Chapman) McGuane (Mooney) Deledio (Stevey J)
C: Hislop, Tuck (Bartel), Polo
HF: Riewoldt Thursty Brown
FF: Morton Richo Nahas
Rucks: Simmonds, Foley (Ablett), White (Selwood)
Int: Gus (No other choice with Patto not ready and this allows Nahas), Collins, Edwards, Jackson
Out: McMuffin, JB, Jay, Browne (Back to Rookie), Raines, Cousins,

And then pray......

I really think Jay's game when in the forward line was good, and he contested hard.

I saw him contest a marking dual outside the goalsquare where the ball come down front and square and morton kicked the goal, he didnt panic when he dished the handball off to morton in the goalsquare ( i was from the stands thou).

He didnt get alot of opputunities as the ball was going to morton and reiwoldt alot as those 2 were marking very well but i was more than pleased with his effort on the night however there was about 16 others that i cant say that about.

I think another reason (other than poor skills)we have a high turnover rate is our lack of ability to create options for the ball carrier. Our players need to be more creative!

Oh I hear that.

You don't see it on TV, but at the game, so often the player with the ball raised his eyes to see..... nothing.
And if not nothing, too few and too poor options.

As a consequence, players develop the expectation that there will be nothing on offer. This inturn leads to indecision, taking too long, getting caught and poor disposal.

This is my problem with Schulz. He never seems to get alot of opportunities. It used to be because of Richo, now we're saying that maybe its becaue of Morton and Reiwoldt. Look its just one match but there are similarities to previous stints. It's step up time.

Tackle, slam tackle, spear tackle, dive tackle, him and shoulder and gang tackle. I'm sure this would put pressure on the Cats. Just look at how the Pies won against them last year. Tackling! Unfortunately, we traded one of the best tacklers in the game to Port.
