HOLDS THE arm and then does a 180 degree turn and smashes him into the turf..totally over the top ..one day someone will break someones neck..i dont kids learning this is a fine way to tackle..
i dont mind the 3 weeks for that

yeah your right, kids today should be taught to ask permission first, "excuse me, im not allowed to tackle anyone hard anymore so would you kindly fall over when i tackle you?"

Pfffttttt! Might as well play netball then.

He should get off. The only reason Dangerfield hits his head is because he tried to ride the tackle and get his kick away when he should have been bracing for the inevitable. Looks like he underestimated Trengove's ability to moster him and paid the price. If anything Dangerfield's the one who needs to learn a lesson here, not Trengove.

1 good thing to come out of the suspension: campbell brown now realises the game has changed and you have to be careful when you tackle and you cant go around elbowing guys in the head off the ball anymore.

and i'll just add, brown is a tool.

Where the hell is this arbitry penalty/charges taking us?.....Hamill a few years ago crushed *smile* in similar way with no report. I was in awe, wishing our guys were as fanatical as Hamill was.
This game is being slowed and softened with way too much direction from AFL HQ.
Let the coaches and players sort it out on the field.

i think the problem is that he trengrove pinned dangerfeilds arm first,(check out the clip again, trengroves first action is to hold dangerfeilds arm down)therefore dis enabling dangerfeild to protect his head as it went into the ground....the tackle itself was fine ,there is no problem with that..but as tim watson says in the commentry dangerfeild has no chance to protect his head as it goes into the ground ...this is the problem as i see it.....

You can't seriously expect players to be able to control tackles to such an extent? Since the AFL came down hard on tackles from behind (arguable push in the back decisions) players have been taught too turn in a tackle. Now it looks like that is out too. Maybe from now on if you touch the player with the ball, they can ball it up just to be safe.
The player can control whether they sling the opponent.
It's a difficult one given players have grown up being taught to apply hard tackles with an objective to get your opponent on the ground and out of the contest - hurting them in the process being a bonus. The rules have changed, if you chose to sling the guy and he strikes his head you are in trouble.

Not sure if Dangerfields attempt to kick ultimately contributed to the angle he hits the turf, you may be right. I'm sure Melbourne will have a bio-mechanic involved if they think it will help get him off.

Correct. The AFL are not fans of the chicken wing tackle given it can do serious damage. You can pin someone's arm in a legal tackle but not pin it then in the process slam their head into the ground. It was very intentional IMO from Trengove and he had Dangerfield's arm pinged before he even tried to get the ball. Maybe some will say bad luck, I guess it depends on your interpretation. Besides the point as I'm pretty sure they brought in a rule to prevent this sort of tackle a fair awhile ago if I'm not mistaken? Them the rules. I think 2 weeks upgraded to the 3 is stiff for Trengove, probably 1 at most. However, the grounds for the initial suspension were there.

Geez, imagine if it was one of our players instead of Dangerfield. Most of the replies in here would be take a complete 180.

::)sssheeeeesh.... in my opinion kids shouldnt be taught to pin a players arms to him before tackling him head first into the ground..a players arm has to be free to protect his head as it goes into the ground..thats the problem. not the bloody tackle.. ::)of course bloody good hard tackling is fine and great..shheeeesh come on..trengrove clearly is holding dangerfeilds arm down so he cannot protect himself...sorry but kids shouldnt be taught to tackle like that

:clap :clap exactly right....

I don't really have a problem with this.

The AFL is sending a clear message. There is hard tackling, and there is dirty play, and clearly this was considered the latter.

The reaction of the Melbourne players tweeting about it is bordering on hysteria. They would be well advised to just concentrate on playing footy.
