Clicked on Matt White's Musashi Player Diary link on the RFC site, thinking, "Oh, cool, here's a chance to get a few insights as to how a young bloke like Matt has gone about settling into AFL footy and life at Richmond."

Imagine my disappointment when it tuned out to be simply a quarter-page ad for Musashi - about how Musashi products have been part of Matt's dietary program and how he has gained weight and strength while also improving skin fold measures. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, or simply naive, but it was a let down. Not a big deal, I know, but it would be nice to clikc at least one link on these bloody Telstra sites that aren't an ad for something or other.

I must be about due to start my PREsident thread on Matty so I'll see if I can get any insights Hanno.

As for ads, I don't mind small unobtrusive ones, especially if they help pay website costs but pop-ups and ads that take a lot of space really irritate me. I wonder if Richmond get the $$$ from the advertising or have any say on the advertising content on our RFC site.

Does anyone really think whitey came out with that quote thats on there? It just seems a tad over the top to me :hihi

They would be Matt's words, the list of Musashi products he is on have made a difference physically. Seeing that supplement brand name at the club is a promising sign.

Whatever he's doing (legally) to build up his body, get the rest of the team doing it because he is one of the few kids we've recruited that seems to have any remote ability to bulk up.

We're definitely one of the lightest teams in the comp.

Whatever it is I hope it isn't responsible for his disposal over the last couple of weeks.

Stay out of Tivendale's locker Whitey!

He's like Hartigan: when the two of them are runnning flat chat and they have time to think about the target they are gonna try and hit, or they are being closed in on and there's some pressure on, the foot errors occur.

There are very few that can deliver flat out.

Whitey and Harts hold on to the ball that fraction of a second too long and often find themselves under pressure and kick it under the pump.

But at lest he has put some beef on, fair dinkum some of blokes could wear a tea-bag for a jumper.

Yeah, but all they have to do is slow those last 2 steps down when they're on the run and soften their arms to get the composure back into their kick so that the thing is dropped properly and doesnt become a floater that either hits the ground 10 metres in front of a team mate.... or sails 10 metres over their head. That's footy skills coaching 101.

We've sucked at this skill for a long time. If I had a dollar for every time a Richmond player kicked it 2 meters over their target's head.......

It is coaching 101 Redflubbs but it is very hard to slow down when you have held on to for 2 seconds to long, the first lead that you should have kicked to is already covered and someone is right on your tail.

I still maintain that with these two, especially White, it is there decision making that causes the problem more then just basic kicking skills, although they both could do with a refresher course in kicking.

Decision making is done above the shoulders, is it fair to say they lack the 'footy brain' to make them a smart footballer, hence their skill errors?

There is no doubt that their decision making is poor - particularly Hartigan who for 3 years now has tried to run the length of the ground whenever he gets the ball (Raines does the same thing). No problem going for a burst and even getting past one or two players, but more than that and you're courting disaster.

Still, I've seen plenty of times where it isnt anything to do with decision making and its just simply a skill error i.e. when the two of them havent been able to spot up a leading team mate whilst they've been on the run.

Both situations are something that they've gotta get better at, particularly seeing as their roles as small defenders are ones that require them to run and kick the ball out of defence with a good level of precision.
