Going into our last game we can do know worse then finish with a 50/50 record an with the amount of kids we have played that has to be a big possitive.
On the kids we have seen the continual improvement of Lids an Bling,, outstanding imrovement of Raines an Polo,created regular senior players it would seem in Pato,Sarge,Whitey,Howat,Axe as well as some extremly encouraging signs at senior level from Meyer,Hughes,Jon an sadly Wil.
Peolple are quick to forget that we lost the first 3 games this season, so it has been a very well hard faught battle from the club to get back to finals contention considering the amount of injuries we have had to key players this season such as Cogs,Newy,Richo,Sarge,Sugar,Wil,Gas,Knobel,Chubba an Harts.
The middle tear of players have probally been a bit unhearalded this season,Tiva for a guy whos career was as good as over going into last pre season has simply done his job most weeks an I would say got himself maybe another 12 months,Krak though obviously not as consistant as we would all like has had a couple of outstanding games as well kicking goals on a regular basis,Razor though im sure he frustrates most at times he has stuck to his task manfully on all ocasions as well as adding some much needed pure aggresion toour back line,Hydey I thought started the year very well an was very important in a lot of our wins in the first half.P Bowdo has been a revelation down back an giving us great drive of the back line an also been able to pinch hit up forward.
We may not have beaten a lot of the top sides in the 8 but apart from the Hawthorn loss we have pretty much won all the "should win " games as well as a couple of nice scalps like Brissy in Brissy,Port in Port,Geelong in Geelong and who could forget beating Adelaide in Joel Bowdens 200th.
The Adelaide game is a great example of how this season we have learnt to play different styles of game plans,in contrast the last 3 weeks have been played with some of the most skilled ,exciting football of seen well since ive watched other sides ;D.
Been able to play these different styles this season can only help not only the individual player but the team an coaches as a whole.
Its been a while since we could say we will certainly have at least 2 All Australians in the same year but the outstanding form of Simo in the ruck an Joel as the general down back would be already pencilled in . Sugars form an jobs done on the competitions elite midfielders has him now rated as argubally the best run with/tagger in the business.
We have also had 3 rising star nominees for the first time since 02 when Cogs,Zantuck an Rodan were nominated.Rainsey of course has been simply brilliant an will hopefully take the medal home(would be a great shot of Lids presenting it to him)but Polo with his great running an shut down roles of some very big names such as Williams,Burton an Goodes has been just about as good but not as flashy, an the same can be spoke about Axe, his clearance work this year is phenomanal played basically 2/3s of a game each week but still manages to be right up there inthe clearances.
For mine it has been a very pleasing an improving year an other then 3 games I have left the footy been able to take quite a few possitives from the game.
