There are a few keen watchers of young footy talent on this forum. I'd be really interested to know who you consider showed some promise in the first round of this years pre-season cup. Not just tigers, but anyone who was running around for the first time in the AFL. I missed some games because I don't have Foxtel$$. The game reviews don't seem to provide much detail on player performance either. So...who looks the goods?

Jared Grant (? think that was his name) for the Bullies looked alright. I was impressed with Stephen Hill and *smile*'s first games myself considering they were first timers. Ziebell showed he wasn't going to loose his hardness at the ball at a higher level.

Mitch Robinson for Carlton as well. Rich was impressive as well for Brisbane.

Did Hamish Hartlett play for Port?

Yeah those two played well.

Hamish did play, I think Port's debut players were Meyer, Hartlett and Davenport and a rookied called Wade Thompson (who looked good, kicked 3 goals and took half a dozen marks I think, looked fast)

Davenport and Hartlett both had about 10 touches.

I'm assuming you're only asking so you can get in early on choosing kids for your DT or SC team? If so, I'd suggest patience. Even if they tear it up now your whole strategy will likely change in the 2 minutes you'll have after round 1 teams are announced and the first lockout.

Disco, yes you are quite right. I know there are people here who take a particular interest in young developing players, I was hoping to pick their brains. I hope that's not considered poor form. Also, that SC scenario you describe is EXACTLY what happened to me last year, the HS site stopped responding and I couldn't alter my team to suit the selections. It ruined my first week and I never recovered. I'm trying to build my teams early this time, but there will still be a last minute scramble no doubt!

I don't think it's poor form mr. It's an interesting point for anyone who's interested in the youngsters irrespective of other motives.

Ziebell for sure.

Liked Davenports game, but we already knew he was a good snag.Richmond should've tried to land him.

Mitch Thorpe should have a breakout year this year.

Probably off topic but I am playing SC for the first time. The site says the lockout will be 7.40 pm on the 26th. Surely we'd have at least 24 hrs to make last minute changes?

Nothing poor form about it, good on you! You're doing your homework and as Disco said it's a interesting point for those in the fantasy comps just as it is those not in them.

I thought the same but I wasn't going to mention the fantasy team thing because I thought some ruthless buggers on here might not volunteer their opinions if they thought they were helping the competition. :hihi

You're on the right track, it's good to track teams and players early (if you haven't done it already) there is just too much data to sift through to leave it to the last minute.

Since it's been mentioned though, when your thinking about kids also think about the teams they play in and the competition they will have for their spots, sides obviously treat H&A footy very different to NAB and once the real stuff starts you can have a great talent who might even earn well when he plays but find he doesn't get to stay in the side or gets a really late start in the season due to having to break into a strong midfield or forward line etc

I've never tried this dream team thingamajiggy. I wonder if I create some accounts and join some comps if I can outsource the actual work. There's bound to be some offshore centre than specialises in dreamteams.

I've seen the quality of their work. I reckon my japanese mother in law could do better.

Nah. The first game's on a Thursday so teams will be announced about 6.30pm that day, aside from the Richmond and Carlton teams which will come out on Wednesday. Teams for Saturday night and Sunday will be squads only. Once teams are announced both the DT and SC sites will function normally for about 2 minutes before going into complete meltdown.

:-\ Well that makes it hard. I'll be at or walking to the No-Dome for the game by 6.30 Thursday, have to have another really careful look at my team. :help

At least we'll be able to see if Robinson and Nahas are in their teams ahead of time. :)
