Having a read about this bloke on another forum, I was thinking how he would be a good replacement as our head coach for 2 years, and 2 years only.

From my observations over the past few years with Terry in charge, amongst many other aspects in the game that we lack, 2 things that really stand out are:

1. Our deplorable lack of pressure all over the ground, which obviously results in us conceeding a big score most weeks and is (obviously) a big factor in us losing games. This is prevalent for a few reasons, but mainly due to our unwillingness to work for each other, shepherd, smothers, etc. Whilst Adelaide don't have the most exciting brand of footy, it's driven in the heads to apply these "1%'s" throughout the game, 100% of the time.

2. Our coaches persisting on playing our guys, especially coaches favourites, ie, Johnson, Tuck, Brown. when not 100% fit or completely out of form. This ends up being a snowball effect, which ultimately:

- deprives a young kid getting a crack in an important rebuilding phase, where dead wood constantly keeps a place in the side undeservedly at the expense of our potential 'future'.
- sends the wrong message out to the playing group, rewarding mediocre performances and ultimately never reaching the heights needed to compete at the highest level required due to complacency, lack of self conditioning, etc.

Craig seems the no.1 coach in the competetion for instilling dicipline, with his side being well drilled defensively, all over the park. With a developing, young squad that we have, now is the time to instill this hard nosed work ethic and 'work for each other' mentality which will set us on the right path for years to come. These young players come to us with skill and good disposal from the TAC comp (until they land at Punt Road ::) ), therefore with team pressure being applied during games, space and turnovers are created and these 'skilled' players will end up with more time to hit targets when in possession, rather than be hunted and under pressure themselves for the majority of the game due to their team mates ball/player watching.

We are the worst in the competition in these areas buy a mile IMO, and I lay full blame on Wallace for not acknowleding the importance dicipline and pressure has on a side. Northey was our last coach to teach and emphasise the importance of this aspect to the team, and while I acknowledge he had slightly better and mature 'cattle' at the time, the players would give their all, virtually 'dying' for each other on the field, making for true passion and excitement when watching our beloved take the field.

Under Wallace as it stands, there are only a handful of players who have the mindset to work for each other, and these are guys who have it naturally, ie. it's not taught to them by the coach but is simply in their nature. The rest just seem to have a simply and weak mindset in this area, ignoring the 1%'s and new kids coming in will generally learn from within and ultimately end up the same mindset and deficiencies.

I don't think Craig is/will be our saviour but I do think his type of coaching would be good for our squad for a 2 year period, and then bring in a 'visionary' style coach to add the finishing touches, so to speak...players without 'ticker' would soon be found out and shown the door, these skinny runts would given every opportunity to develop their bodies via Craigs athletics background and knowledge and this 'work for each other' mentality would be a pre-requisite - no ifs, buts or maybe's...

Just a thought... ;)

I couldn't help but think watching last night's final that Craig gets his game plan from Terry. Hard to judge from a telly screen but they looked to overhandle the ball and kick across and backwards rather than go direct. Too much stuffing around for my liking and I reckon it cost the Crows a win...then it could have looked completely different watching the game live.

Craig, IMO, would be the ultimate assistant coach. Kind of like the role in Soccer. They have the manager, someone like Wallace, who attend to everything other than training the players, and then they have the coach who is responsible for training the players and getting the most out of them physically.

Neil Craig is an expert at this.

Bad thought NOT GOING TO HAPPEN GET OVER IT GUYS AND GIRLS Wallace till 2009 then re access stop all this short cutting IT WILL NOT WORK LETS ALL MOVE IN THE 1 DIRECTION

Craig would bring a very disciplined approach and a much needed belief in the draft to the Tigers.

But gwad the Crow are an ugly team to watch, you could argue that he's doing the best he can with the cattle, but it's not pretty.

Unfortunately there are no short cuts. The job at the RFC will take more than a 2 year fill in to fix.

Agree, Craig is a very very good coach, whatever his teachings are do work well.

Yes, our coaches do have their favourites who they just play no matter what, week in week out.

Yes, this does compromise our system by keeping other guys out who should get a go and play a few games.

Alot of your points were valid, but we can't just keep chopping and changing coaches, how has this helped us in the past? What was the success rate of this?

I think it is the players who should be looked at and moved on if they can't help us going forward.

Stop shouting at us Little Stevie. We are allowed to have thoughts and ideas to put up for discussion and dissection regardless of the quality or direction of the thought.

Craigy is a bit slow to ring in the changes imo. He is a top coach, just look at the talent he has unearthed. Kirk Tippet really looks like a top prospect as does Porplyzia, Sellar and Gill - and thats just the forward line.

The crows are a defense first team with pretty silky skills, they need more up forward as last year really showed (relying on welsh). With the top cattle, i guess most coaches are shoe in finals teams but its clear that adelaide are in a rebuild phase and no on expects them to make finals this year. Based on the nab cup they still look a bit iffy in the forward line, though it does look to be improving quickly.

Unless this coaching bug has really got into his blood and he would change past comments, he won;t coach outside of Adelaide. Give it up.

he has his strengths but i will always remember how long it took him to work out what we were doing in the telstra dome 'basketball game' when most of us in the stands had worked it out straightaway.

Wallace hasn't gone yet and when he is it's going to take years to recover.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

If he could develop the skills in our players that Adelaide players demonstrate, I'd be happy.

He did say that once he stopped coaching the crows, he wouldn't coach anyone else, didn't he?

Pretty good post Newy.

Paul Roos would be good for the same reasons.

Bugger Neil Craig but who are their skills coach get them.

Good coaches surround themselves with good assistants(finances notwithstanding).Thats what ussually makes some of them REALLY good-working out who the good assistants are.

It's no different to good CEO's in that regard.

Neil Craig is not the most popular coach amongst his playing group.

If Wallet goes, Damien Hardwick for me. The New Breed is the way to go.
