Nah my vote is for Craig McRae
McRae? You want our bunch of soft, undersized, outside receivers to be coached by someone that played the game in a similar fashion?
Let's no overreact as it is only round 1 but if there were to be a coaching change in the near future the club should find the hardest, meanest guy around and get him to teach the kids how to win a contested football, how to tackle with ferocity, how to shephard and block and most importly...how to have some mongrel about us.
I watched young Joseph and Robinson last night. Every contest they put their heads over the ball, they blocked, they gave second and third efforts and they worked hard for their teammates when they had the ball and when they didn't. They looked like they were proud to be wearing their clubs jumper and were excited and inspired to be on the big stage with the big boys. Like they were young pups trying to impress their owners. Our pups look like they were the ones in the litter the cuddled in the corner shaking and scared.
Are our recruiters missing something? I will throw some names out here...Edwards, Thursfield, Riewoldt, McGuane, Collins, Tambling, Hughes and McMahon....that is just for starters, you could also add Cotchin, Bowden, Simmonds ect ect (oh and pick 8 Oakleigh-Nicolls)...what do they all have in common? They are all intraverted guys that wouldn't look out of place holding an old ladies hand to cross the road. Sure they are probably nice guys, nice people...but when you have 15 guys on the field that shy away from a hard physical contest, what do you expect? I want guys that will tackle on old lady if she has the pill, put her down hard too

and not feel bad, or the need to say sorry mam'
Surely the strength and conditioning coaches must look at our guys and say hmmm, I wonder why all the other teams look bigger, thicker through the legs and stronger through the mid-sections. Surely Jordan McMahon and McGuane and Edwards and Thursfield and Polo and Riewoldt and many more are not working hard enough to put on size, especially not through their legs and mid-sections (the two key areas of strength that allow a player to break a tackle). Brett Deledio could and should be working towards a physique of a Nathan Buckley or a Mark Ruccuito, instead he looks like he getting slighter every year and soon he will become a right-footed clone of Aaron Fiora. Everytime we were tackled last night, they stuck us, and hurt us. Our tackles were brushed off and weak.
That is my rant. I understand it is only round 1 and I am positive that we can't play that bad again, so positive in fact that I will be off to Geelong next week to get behind the boys.
