Newman as a goal kicker?

The issue of hardness and leadership is the key for a successfull preseason. If we can get our heads right then the rest will follow. You need leadership and a team of hardnuts first. From this they WILL do the work and combined this will result in all areas of their game improving. It starts in the head. No BS make believe bootcamp, I'm talking real hardnut army PTI trainers and leadership instructors.

Weights: just about evryone BUT richo, simmo & bowden need lots of creatine and gymwork - extra sessions for edwards, thursty, mcguane, connors, king, riewoldt, hughes, schulz, tambling, polo, patto

ur spot on that these need extra bulk but i i know that edwards, thursty, conners, roo, hughes and tambling aren't doing weights because no club in the AFL exposes the weights to the young kids as they dont believe the kids muscels are mature enough too handle the heavy weight training done at AFL level. these players are gonna take a bit of time, we can just hope they mature a bit faster and that they continue doing the right thing and the bulk will just come naturally once there bodies mature. (tom hawkings doesnt do weights at Geelong)

I think someone on the coaching panel definitely had a word to Newman half way through the year. He actually moved on to a wing in the second half of the year and looked a much different footballer. Granted it was more of a wing man pushing into defence and not reallyy going past the middle but it was a welcome change. Attacked the corridor with his kicking and become a longer kick, not just going sideways like he has been prone to do. I tend to agree with Leysy, he is a wingman in every sense of the word. I think this will be his role next year. He is one of the only gut runners we have, although not explosive he has reasonable endurance and pace over a longer distance. Watch him one he comes off the ground, he is one of the few blokes who looks spent and looks like they need the rest. Defensive wingman.
