newman - onballer?

Newman needs to step up into the midfield for his own development, he is good enough to play as a defensive tagger on the opposition's best player eash week, reducing the need to play Chaffey.

Kane Johnson is starting to feel the pinch in the midfield and he and Newman should swap roles, Johnson across half-back and Newman into the middle. This move will preserve Johnson's career and advance Newman's.

Very well educated guess there TOT. GM did mention that while we were having the fried calamari.

i agree, but johnson is HBF and cannot take the best opposition small - we need someone who can handle that
someone with speed and can play at medium height with a disciplined approach to their game - someone like Newman - until we can replace him he has to stay in the back half

Leave him in the backline.  Besides Newman and Bowden we have no-one that can create from the backline.  Bowden has been tried in the midfield, but is far better in the backline.  Same applies to Newman I think.
Sage words Harold.

Newman is a good player and one of my favourites, but i don't believe he's very good at clearances. This is one of the most important jobs of an on baller. Some players just aren't natural midfielders but are great backmen.David King,Mcphee,Gilbee etc do their best work from the back line.I'd keep him there.

Agree. Newman should stay in the backline. Apart from him and Bowden, no one back there can kick the ball. With Newman, Bowden and then Johnson running from half back, we might actually start creating something.

Polo will soon take over Chaffey's defensive midfield role.

Hopefully the arrival of Andy Collins at Coburg can develop a young player(Harts, Rodan, ?) to play back pocket & allow Newman to move further up the ground. He has to at least be tried in the midfield. At the very least I'd like to see him off the HBF.
Tuck and Cogs do a great job on the clearances but it Newman's ball skills and awareness that need to be used to greater effect. Deledio will be there eventually but still probably too early to expect him to spend extended periods on the ball.
Newman should at least be given an opportunity IMO. Not much good pidgeonholing him purely as a defender for the rest of his career.

Newmo has always been good and we've all known this for a while...nothing new to me, just good to see people going wow who the f**k is that guy!! Keep dominating NEWMO
