Newman signals Captaincy aspirations

I thought Newmo showed leadership. Good skills, led by example, worked hard, tough in the contest and showed some passion

Spot on willo. There were a lot worse than Newmo last night. He's probably one of the only ones when he gets the ball I'm confident he's gonna take the right option and hit a target

Captain: Chris Newman
Vice Captain: Jake King

nobody else showed any sings of leadership last night around the ground

Give it to him now as Johnson best football has well and truely passed him bye. How can youn lead by example when you lack the fundamental attributes of a footballer.

If there is one player in recent history that has made me stand up and yell "well done" ............ out very very loud ............. it's Chris Newman.

Absolutely!

And equally important, I don't think I have ever left a game thinking 'Geez, Newman had a shocker today!'

Can't think of anyone more consistent at RFC off the top of my head.

Yep, I'm really starting to see the leadership qualities in Newman.
Unless someone takes a quantum leap this year, he's a shoe in for the captaincy.

I see in yesterday's Sunday Herald Sun Kevin Sheedy rates Chris Newman as our next captain after coaching him in the International Rules team.
He must do and say all the right things for all the coaches he plays under to rate him so highly

My favorite player along with coggy, we can go on about the negatives, but he is one player that I love watching every week because you know what your going to get.

Can anybody recall some of Chris Newman's opponents during our glorious Escort Cup series?

Still our loosest defender. Should be tried out up forward.

His skills are too good to be wasted up forward.
He's the only one who can consistently hit a target.
Back or Mid for me.

I know Johnson loves the club, but as a captain he is a serious liability, the only thing he won on Friday night was the toss. I can count on the fingers of one hand the amount of times he moved the ball forward last year. He's a negative player. He's about as noisy as Humphrey Bear on the field. There doesn't seem to be any passion about the way he plays. I take the 2 flags at Adelaide with a grain of salt, yes he was in the sides and he had to be good to get there, but he was the 4th best midfielder there and even in a side as astonishingly average as Richmond he doesn't look to be our best midfielder. Newman plays with passion, he should be moved into the midfield, he is too loose in defence. Tuck seriously needs help from another mature bodied player in there and Newman could provide, plus he can actually kick the ball, a skill that has evaded Tuck. Don't tell me you weren't inspired when he kicked that goal from 80 metres out against Freo last year. He's also a signal toward the future. Johnson won't be there for much longer.
