Next Premiership Side

Theres realists and theres optimists on this site and nothing wrong with being either or ok.
I am a realist and this is my opinion i just think it impossible to label a side a future premiership team with players that are unproven as well as lacking at least another 5 - 6 quality players which would be required for sustained finals appearances let alone a flag.
Not going your effort personally i just cant sunscribe to it. If thinking bout of such things helps pass your time and fires you up for the upcoming season then power to ya and  go for it man i just believe we are a lot further away from real success than alot of others.

I am not a complete Darksider or doom sayer evn tho of recent times things may look that way. I consider myself a moderate, that is a realist yet very passionate pure and simple.
I love the tigers as much if not more than most here would believe, and have been very rampant over a very small number of issues mainly 2 which have been a group of players that i do not rate as well as poor recruiting and management for the past 20 years of which i reckon i have plenty of others that agree with me and thats it.
I dont rate our list as highly as most that is true but that is cos there are 6 - 8 players still at the club i dont rate simple as that.
So why am i labelled as a doomsayer and unrealistic un passionate tiger fan.

Maybe if you guys and girls think about it maybe i rant the way i do cos i DO love my tigers and am sick and tired of watching Bright optimistic passionate tiger fans get their hearts broken year in year out cos of poor decision making and management.

craig I couldn't agree more.
I don't consider myself a darksider, but it really does amaze me how optimistic folks are about a flag in the forseeable future. It is just getting so hard, particularly for Victorian clubs.
Look at some of the stats:
Sydney - just won their first flag in 72 years!
Geelong - not won it in 42 years.
Bulldogs - 51 years (and that was their only one).
St. Kilda - 39 years (ditto, and by a point).
Melbourne - 41 years.
Even wealthy Collingwood have managed only one in 47 years.
Tiges - nothing for 25 years.
And even the modern giants Hawthorn's last flag is starting to look rather distant at 14 years.
Fitzroy? say no more.

Don't get me wrong, I think finally the club are on the right track but it is going to be a very hard road. Some of you talk about a dynasty of successful seasons but I'll take a lucky one-off flag any day (a-la Port and maybe Sydney).

Good post 159. Realism bites when you see a post like that.

Initially we have to be competitve week to week against ALL sides. Then just maybe I'd just love to see us play in the finals on a regular basis. Then and only then will I believe that we are genuinely a chance for a flag.
With all due respect 8ball it's enough to pick a team that's going to be competitive ATM than select one that's going to threaten for the flag.

Hey Oldie does that mean we are in agreeance here hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha :hihi :hihi :hihi

it doesnt feel the same when we are not having a jibe session hahahahahahahahahahahah :hihi :hihi :hihi :hihi

I agree with your statment Craig.

I was watching the game V the eagles last night on foxtel where we lost by 3 pts.
What stood out to me was the lack of skill we have from most of our players!
This has to improve although unlikely from most players for us to be consistant threat.
The young ones are the key(Deledio proved this)if they step up and prove themselves somewhat then I will be more satisfied.

I love optimism and always am, thers no better way to go into a new season.

To further illustrate things.
I grew up in the 70s. It was often observed then that from 1967 to 1983, only Carlton, Richmond, Hawthorn and North Melbourne won flags. This was a monopolisation resulting from a VFL which allowed the rich to get richer. In those days, you never even felt like the Fitzroys, South Melbournes and Footscrays of this world had a ghost of a chance of winning a flag.
Essendon broke the mould a bit in 1984. But if you exclude the one-off flag of Collingwood in 1990, nothing much has really changed since that four-club monopoly (extended to 5 with Essendon). The only other clubs to have managed flags since then have been interstaters. It's lovely to think that the likes of Fitzroy and South Melbourne finally broke premiership droughts but the reality is they were won because they went interstate.
So, 1990 aside, in 39 seasons since 1967, only five Victorian clubs have shared the ultimate honour. It's a sequence that stretches back so far that Richmond are a part of it. :-[

I love the Tiges, but I think if you look into the future, the Hawks will probably pass us with their development due to totally bottoming out and taking 9 or 10 top draft picks in the last 2 drafts. The hawks like St.Kilda will have no excuse within 2 to 3 years. Richmond on the other hand will probably finish mid table as usual.

Im a realist.
