No.1 thug, Glen Archer.

Glen Archer has been ruubed out 12 times in his career-second only to Rhys Jones---yeah -a tough HONEST footballer!!!

I am with you Blood - he is a crude thug on the footy field.

Yes he is courageous and he does put his head over the ball - so he puts himself in a place to get what he dishes out - I applaud that! - Unlike other weak cheap shot merchants like Pickett etc.

Mr Archer - The don't argue you got from Simmo - which went un-noticed by the umps - was only one small whack you have recieved compared to all the whacks you have given out - which too have all gone un-noticed by the umps.

Every premiership team has to have a hard physical type to win the flag - but Mr Archer how you go about it is very crude.

We at Tigerland need a hard man to dish a bit out - Hall does a bit and Staff is gangly when he does it - but who else have we got that can make 'em hurt?

I've been giving heaps to Richard Vandenberg for his rough behind-the-play tactics, but there's a bloke who beats him hands down for absolutely thuggery. Watch Glen Archer closely in any game and you'll see him belting opposition players from behind, using his powerful straight-out arm and fist. How he gets away with it week after week I'll never know. He's getting older, slower but makes up for that by belting 'em.

That's exactly why I love Glen Archer the footballer so much. Imagine if he played his career at the Tigers.

Jack Dyer knocked down more opponents, broke more collarbones, than Glen Archer could ever dream about, but Jack did it fairly and squarely, hip and shoulder style. Go Tiges!

Interesting...I wonder how the great JD would go under the current tribunal system?
Never mind what he'd think of it.

The current tribunal system is ridiculous. A fair, square hip and shoulder is becoming outlawed by the look of it. That would just about ruin the game. As long as elbows, knees and fists aren't used illegally, heavy knocks should be accepted as part of the game.

Bloody pathetic nowadays. They've taken the thugs and snipers out of the game, as they should have.
But with all the hyper media exposure, legal sharks and the Govt. worksafe legislation there is no way you can have a sport such as footy played at 100 miles an hour with players running in from differing directions and still allow the physical collisions to occur.
Someone at H.O. needs to pull the fingers out of their collective-----------and make some hard decisions about our game because the day to day umpiring and tribunalling according to the media frenzy generated is turning our game into a bloody joke.

Agree entirely, TigerMasochist. The players don't seem to know what to expect these days, with umpires getting tangled up with the rules. They make too many errors.

Annoys me when a thug carries on like a precious primmadonna when they cop one like archer did Sat. Carey did it a lot, King as well. Bit of a North stock-in-trade.

I've always been a rap for Archer. But, I thought his crybaby antics on Saturday were disappointing. Basically had a tantrum cos he didn't get his own way. Grow up, Arch.

I'm a bit of an Archer fan and although I'm a big fan of the legend of Jack Dyer, I never saw him play. I guess Dyer would have broken him in half.

But I'll tell you this, I saw Neil Balme belt and terrify blokes like Mad Dog Muir, Carl (moleskins) Ditterich, Vin Waite (RIP or I'd tee off), Southby (an accident, I swear) and many others.

Glenn Archer would rest in the forward pocket if we still had Balme or fake a thigh strain for a benching. And Balme was a thug.

I'd kill for another like Bad Boy Neil Balme.

Kill. ;D

Agree entirely re Neil Balme, Dyer'ere! Boy, was he a big bloke and rather tough at times! He could have put some of today's "toughies" under his arms and carried 'em. When he retired, I heard him on radio many times and he sounded such a nice, calm gentleman with a wonderfully deep voice.
