I took a couple of days to digest (and watch the replay again and again) of Fridays game - and after reading a plethora of posts - I'm a bit lost that others didn't note the SHOCKER that Raines had against the Dogs ....... in fact the shocker he's had for 4 weeks!

Today there has been a bunch of hype here in Sydney about a free concert that masqueraded as a protest against IR reform.

Why can't the AFL adopt the "Work Choice" concept - and actually start paying individuals based on work performance / efforts ????????????

Nothing funnier than picking up the paper everyday/watching Pravda on Sky News where everyone can bemoan politicians performance - yet - the very same people and organisations heap praise on individuals who earn $200,000 + and can't tackle / run / kick straight one day a week.

Stop crapping on about "young boys"

You take the pay - do the job!

Raines, Tambling, Krakoeur, Pettifer ........ and it pains me to say it ..... RICHO

You are not earning your pay!

Tries to break toooooooooo many tackles, is getting caught, making a dogs breakfast out of it lately. Is suffering from the 3rd year blues. :P

His current form relects our performances. Hasn't changed his game from last year. Nothing wrong with trying to run the lines and trying to break tackles. Would you prefer if he ran through the lines and chased for tackles?

Good point Skills, kerr and judd are forever braking tackles...How many times have u seen those guys run right through sometimes they break them with their strong hips and sometimes they get caught but still seem to slip out a handball here and there...

He's had a slow start this year, but was back to close to his best on Friday night.

I don't mind him trying to take someone on. It's better than handballing backwards to a stationary target who is already under pressure like most of his team-mates do.

I agree with the concern raised about the form of Raines. Sure he doesn't lack courage and runs staight, but that's all he does, he seems to lack a side step, awareness and is prone to a turn-over. Good post.

Played a good game I thought although the guys he played on Cooney, Murphy all had good games so depends how you judge it has to play in the middle with Lids & Axel!!!

It's not the total but the quality of possessions that count.......and honestly he butchered the ball to the max.
This is true. I thought his handballs were terrible and put teammates under major pressure. He seems a "one thought at a time player" and seems to get stuck when Plan A (usually running & carrying) doesn't work.

It's funny though, he seems to be one that's immune to criticism around here. I've thought the same about Tuck.

Don't shoot!

Raines played well friday night & will now get his 2007 season back on track.

Don't agree mb. He got caught a lot, put his team mates under a lot of pressure and his disposal was very ordinary. He's struggling at the moment but I hope he gets back on track soon.

Hopper, I 100% agree with you.

Raines simply does not have the basic skills and is below most of the team. This isn't just any team, but a Richmond team.

Tuck is just as bad, and I feel both players will take us nowhere unless they turn things around. Tim Fleming could get the ball, but could he kick? Richmond's bad problem is turnovers and poor kicking efficiency, yet when we single out the players who are the main culprits everyone is like "oh nooo, but he tries hard, he has courage, he adds hardness" etc.

Surely we can expect a level of professionalism in our players that includes the basic kicking skills of football, can't we?

Tuck was pretty good I thought - best game of the year. Disposal seemed much better. Can see both sides of the Raines argument but he clearly has credits.

Rainesy was terrible, i like it that he tries to break the lines and take blokes on, but i wish other times he'd realise he's deep in the defensive half and should just kick the ball out of there. There's also no point running past a bloke to recieve a handball if your only a metre away and the man on the mark has no work to do to wrap you up. Needs to play smarter and be more willing to lay boot to ball. That way he'd prove a real threat rather than just being someone who is going to run everytime he gets the ball, becomes too predictable

Agreed with highlight above, and with Hopper! Tuck, when he has time can pass the ball well - he just is no good at set shots. Does a Daffy and kicks blindly out of the centre a bit too much, but that is decreasing with better support from Foley - deperately needs a quality midfielder to help out and his game would lift accordingly.

The way Raines plays I'd like to see him thrown in the forward line every now and then to play as a defensive forward. He can kick goals, will more than likely keep the ball trapped in better than the current crumbers and is clean off the deck. He's the type that does blaze away with the kick, so I'd prefer he was shooting at the goals rather than stuffing up the kick to the wing and have the ball rebound back over his head for another score.
