PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

This year is the time to get a new coach. Wallace may have built a half decent list but he is not up to it on game day. With all other coaches just about safe then we could invite all to apply and have the pick of the bunch. Who would apply is another question. Undoubtedly our list is better than when Spud left, and we do have some quality youngsters. This would surely appeal to someone out there.

Two coaches in nine years is not bad. They have had their chance. One coach chose to leave and the other has done nothing. We can not be scared to change because we don't want to be seen as a club which is knee jerk, but we need to see results. How long does a coach need anyway? How long does a club have to persist with a person who is failing in that role? Any other club would have allowed DF to re-sign like he did and would be showing TW the door at season's end, so why shouldn't we?

If TW had one solitary finals appearance under his belt I may feel differently, but we have gone nowhere. If he had two I'd probably be happy to extend his contract. And that includes this season, not just the past three.

I think any potential coach would now be thinking that his job would be safe for three seasons (minimum), and as long as he showed something in that time then he would be a fair chance to get an extension.

I'm just sick of it.

Adelaide - Craig is safe.
Brisbane - Matthews is safe.
Carlton - Ratten, first season, has impressed.
Collingwood - Mick is untouchable (I don't know why).
Essendon - Knights, first year coach and Bombers will give him a chance.
Fremantle - Harvey could go, but first year coach.
Geelong - Thompson is safe for years.
Hawthorn - Clarkson is safe.
Melbourne - See Freo.
North - Laidley should be safe is they make the finals.
Port Adelaide - Choco could go but unlikely the year after making it to a GF.
Saints - Lyon might go, but think Saints would let him coach out contract.
Sydney - Roos is safe.
Western Bulldogs - Eade has started something, is safe.
West Coast - Woosha just about has a job for life I reckon.
