Hi,

Read an article about the Demons promoting a rookie named Matthew Warnock. Ok Rookies can get promoted but these two paragraphs really surprised me!

"Melbourne has made defender Matthew Warnock its nominated rookie for 2006 after the 22-year-old impressed the match committee with his strong performances in the Demons' first two NAB Cup matches.

A nominated rookie is eligible for senior selection throughout the entire premiership season without actually being elevated to the senior list. "

Can someone please tell me what a nominated rookie is and how it works. Reading it we can promote Jeremy Humm any time throughout the season even if we dont have an injury.

Comments very welcome...

We don't have a nominated rookie. We have 2 vets listed instead.

Gee this is my third crack at your post Wayno. Guess who went out for dinner. :-[

My understanding is that if you don't have 2 veterans on the list, and if you have a vacancy and the required $$, you can nominate a rookie who can be elevated at any time.

We don't have a nominated rookie seeing Gas and Richo are both listed as veterans so the only way we can elevate a rookie is if a player goes ontot he long term injury list.

tHANKS ROSY,

I THOUGHT ALL TEAMS HAD VETERANS, MELBOURNE MUST HAVE A FEW PLAYERS WHO QUALIFY WOULDNT THEY?

Anyway thanks for clearing it up, Just have hear about it before.

Veteran by age is different to veteran for the purpose of the list.  If we chose not to list either one or both of Gas or Richo as vets we could nominate a rooke.  Of course finances and the salary cap are major considerations in regard to which way clubs tackle this.

Nope Gaspar is a veteran and Staff maybe one too.

I think there are rules about veterans.

They have to be at a club for a certain period of time (10 years?) or play a certain number of games (200?)

Not sure, but Staff has only been playing with us for about 4 years or so? And I think he is still about 1 and a bit years off playing his 100 games for us too.
