I was following the last quarter on the AFL site. There is a "worm" that is displayed to show the possessions and the flow of the ball. There was just too much backwards and sideways movement. The more we possess the greater the chance of a turnover...and that is when we pay big time. I understand that football has become a possession game, but how far can this style take us? I say sure let's pass it around but not backwards or sideways. It is time to give free reign to Deledio, Tambling, Foley and Raines to take players on and the way to do this is to give it to these players as they are in full stride NOT when they are stationary, an example of this is the way Rohan Smith used to play for the Dogs.

A possession game will only be damaging when it is teamed with forward aggressive ball carrying in numbers!

Your thoughts ladies and gentlemen?

Our style of play is a complete joke.We were 27 pts up & still kicking it sideways or in defence would prefer to hospital handball to someone under pressure than kick it long.

I don't think we have the skill to play a high possession game. The more we chip it around, the more turnovers we seem to create.

Spot on Jinks! I thought we lacked any kind of game plan or set plays.

We played the same way a Geelong a few weeks ago, Wallace needs to review his game style.

If TW continues this sort of trash, the bloody chip kick, possession game, going sideways and backwards, that ugly play OUR coach calls a plan, then he will not be around for 2011.

I noticed set plays by us.

I also noticed Carlton's pressure, it did not stop, and they got ahead of us on the scoreboard.

We looked a little underdone in match fitness, but other than that, we kicked nearly 100 points. I think 4 clubs kicked over 100 points this weekend. We kicked more points than a lot of other clubs.

:blah

4 kicks counting from when the full back kicks it out until when we're lining up on our goals - any more than that and heads should roll!

oh, alright, 5 kicks, hows that?

Yep, lets play Richo and *smile* forward. Lets have a rule change where they can't be pushed in the back. Then lets kick it around and give the opposition time to get two or three players in front of them. Makes sense to me.

This thread is based on a statement about the last quarter. The issue may be a real one but the last quarter was typified by Richmond having run out of legs by comparison to Carlton. We stop running or they were just running harder and there was no-one free ever up the field. Which means you go sideways and chip around because you are manned up and you are looking for a hole and something to change.

So before throwing your dung pie at your favourite target acknowledge the real reason. Not enough puff.

I really don't think the way the guys played tonight would have been the way that TW wanted them to play, I think they are just sh!t.
OK I'll elaborate, I said to my mates at the game, I can't name one player out there who will go and create the play. It seems we have 22 players who have the mind set that I will hang back & wait for somebody else to do it.
We drafted Deledio at number 1, what to play at half back? Put the guy on the ball to learn his craft. Questions we soon be asked about you Brett, the natural progression seems to be very slow.
Gaspar has to go, we know his kicking is disgraceful, but he can't handball either, his attempt in the third quarter to a team mate that was no more than 3 metres away, where did it end up? At his feet, not his team mates feet, Gaspars feet. FFS an Auskick kid would have been upset with that effort.
I think it was Ron Barassi, don't talk, DO. Get the pill, make the play, stop being lazy. Stop wrecking my winters!

Here, here! We need the likes of Deledio, Tambling and Raines to become confident, arrogant and aggressive playmakers. Wallace should be in their ears turning these guys into aggressive, arrogant stars!

Is going sideways a set play?

I suppose I should have said, for your sake, that I noticed some set plays. Of which would see players kick sideways, then players would run into space in different directions to open up space up the middle. This did not happen much, but I did notice patterns in the kicking sideways plays.
