1. McGuane is being given tough assignments like Darcy and Minson. Good, the more he gets bloodied and pushed around by 100kg hoons, the better. Skilled but underfed, he is potential running, rebounding CHB. Not this year though. Give him the hard assignments and make him work.
2. Polak should play CHF. Forget all the razza matazz from the Bulldogs after half time. The second half was the best our forward line has functioned all year. Polak plays high CHF, Schulz plays FF and Richo has a tall roving commission up forward. Hyde, Tivendale and Tambling (maybe even Brown) are capable of providing some crumbs.
3. Running goals by the opposition repeatedly kill us. Tivendale and Hyde are the only players kicking running goals for us, occasionally Tuck pitches in. Get off their backs and look at the guys who should be doing this too and aren't. Johnson, Krakouer, PBowden, Pettifer all come easily to mind.
4. Wallace forces them to play a skilful man's game. Precision kicking, run, pace, confidence, hard leads, handballs. The players stuff it up because they miss targets. Encourage Wallace because he is right. This is the style that wins games. It is the underskilled players who need to go, not the coach.
5. More kids. Give them game time whenever and whereever possible.
6. Deledio, Polo, Tambling, Foley, Schulz, Raines and McGuane are all coming along nicely. They are AFL standard. No doubt, there are several others who will join them soon enough.
7. Wallace and Miller have committed one serious crime over the off-season. They are a genuine ruckman short. Even a Cameron Cloke would be handy in the short-term. It is absolutely essential that they recruit at least two young ruckmen at the end of the season.
8. Johnson and Gaspar should hang up their boots at the end of the season.
