Official Jack Dyer Medal Thread [Merged]

Interesting, that Kevin Bartlett (an immortal of the club), is recognised with 5th place Best and Fairest award.
Jack Dyer has the medal and the grandstand named after him.
Tom Hafey has a fundraising function named after him.
Francis Bourke has a 'best clubman ?' type award named after him.

Where is the recognition for brilliant players like Royce hart, Roy Wright, Kevin Bartlett, BIll Morris, Dale weightman etc etc

Very good point Rhett. I've been wondering about that for a few yrs now.

I have a theory on this. I'm pretty sure most of these awards were "named" after 1991 (which was Kevins last year as coach).

I have no doubt (as harsh as this sounds) that had he not snubbed the club since that time, the Kevin Bartlett award would have been given for second or at worst 3rd place.

Did Geoff Raines put too much sauce on the pie that he TUCKed into on Wednesday night? ::)

It is alleged that some play acting ended up with Geoff going out through a back door to recover from a blood nose.

was there a bit of a stoush at the b/f on wed night?

Just for fun if you divide the vote for the Jack Dyer by the number of games played then the order is Thursfield, Johnson, Simmons, Raines, J Bowden, *smile*, Richo, Polo, Pettifer, Tivendale for the top ten.

The next 12 to make a team are Kellaway, P Bowden, Deledio, Tuck, Hyde, Newman, Foley, Brown, Gaspar, Krakouer, Hall and Meyer.

Then outside the top 22 are Howatt, Roach, Tambling, Stafford, Schulz, Knobel, White, Hartigan, Jackson, Chaffey, Pattison, Hughes, JON and Rodan averaging 0.2 votes per game. Players with no votes were Moore 2 games, Humm 1, McGuane 2, Limbach 0, Casserley 0.

So you would think that the players to be delisted or traded would come from those below the top 10, and especially those outsied the top 22, except for Tambling, White, Pattison, Hughes, JON and Casserley.

Oh yeh the winner was Thursfield one game for 15 votes and a reco. Stiff luck for him and the Tigers.
This also ranks *smile* as 6th best, Kellaway as 11th, Newman as 16th and Brown as 18th and Schulz as 27th so he could be trade bait as this is a low rating for his experience and reputation with some.

Also the injuries this year cost the Tigers a lot of top performances form our better players.

The Brownlow voting proves the point that our club over rates hacks.
Ugly taggers will never win Brownlows, win games or win finals.
Its a joke that Symonds didnt win the B/F and laughable that voteless Kane won it!!!
Its like giving the fat kid an encouragement award!!!

Johnson is far from a hack - his skills are 1st rate

However I was also a little annoyed that defensive based players seemed to do well in our B&F.

Our midfielders got hardly any votes at all last night. Not sure if TWs rotations help them in that regard. At best our midfielders spend 3 quarters of match on the field

the brownlow is the umpires award.

Glenn Archer is right in that it means jack sh!t.

Every winner always says that the B& F is more important to them

Using the brownlow to support an argument as to someone having a sh!t year IE Kane Johnson is a joke.

Johnson had a great year, I think that our coaching staff are in a much better position to judge that then 3 umpires who in reality have no idea on what roles each player has to play for the side.

Simmo was robbed of the Jack. Very stiff.

Johnno had a solid second half but if Troy cannot win Jack in 2006 he will never get it.

Quick question for those who attended the b&f, what sort of talent was hanging around our first year players.

Have heard a girl i used to go to school with is seeing matt white. if so its more proof that going afl improves your looks overnight.

Might be small consolation KnobelKnobelKnobel, but if being an AFL player is the dominant attraction for a girl, you're not missing too much.   ;)

He is our modern day 'Captain Blood'.

Got a bit of time on my hands these day's , so decided to look back a little in the past and look up some old Threads/Posts.

Found this "Doozie" and was interested to know if you still felt this to be an appropriate comparision Skip ?

Less than 11 months have passed since this Post , so it's not like it's "Ancient History" either.

Just wondering !!
