PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

This thread is for official trades and updates of the week rather than for speculation and frivolity. It should probably be a locked thread so that the mods and admins are the only ones who can update it but seeing we're not always around and mightn't be the first with the info we'll leave it open but any posts not sticking to the topic will be deleted. There are plenty of other threads for general discussion.

EmailCarlton are confident of securing West Coast skipper Chris Judd without the involvement of a third party after meeting with the Eagles in Melbourne.

West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett and coach John Worsfold were absent as the AFL's trade period opened, because of their attendance at a Perth memorial service for former Eagle Chris Mainwaring.

But Blues chief executive Greg Swann said Carlton and West Coast had some positive discussions.

Several trade proposals were put on the table for consideration and the two clubs agreed to do the deal as quickly as possible and to keep it between themselves, rather than involve a third club.

"One of the things we were very clear on today was we just felt that was the easiest way to go," Swann said.

"When you involve third parties it makes it difficult, and they agreed with that, so that's what we're working through.

"There's a few things to go back and forward, but we had good discussions.

"Hopefully (a deal is) done before Friday, as in earlier in the week rather than later.

"I think both parties are mindful that if we can come to a resolution, we might as well do it as early as we can and then the rest of the trades can happen."

In other trade news, ruckmen are high on the agenda for several clubs, with Geelong pair Mark Blake and Steven King, Adelaide's Ben Hudson and John Meesen and Brisbane's Cameron Wood all the subject of discussions.

Hudson is seeking a move to the Western Bulldogs, with the Crows wanting the Bulldogs' second round draft pick (No.22) in return, but the `Dogs are unwilling to give that up.

Similarly, Adelaide want Melbourne's second round choice (No.21) for Meesen, but the Demons have only offered their third round pick (No.37).

Brisbane coach Leigh Matthews said several clubs had inquired about Wood, but so far had not offered anything that interested the Lions.

Richmond and St Kilda both expressed interest in Blake, with Saints football development manager Tony Elshaug saying the club was intent on gaining another ruckman.

"Everyone is convinced you need two strong ruckmen to win a premiership," he said.

"If you aren't looking down that road, you've got to have something else special going in your team."

Richmond football director Greg Miller said the Tigers remained unsure about Blake's intentions.

In other developments:

* The Tigers were confident of securing West Coast forward Mitch Morton for an exchange of second and third round draft picks.

* Sydney expect to secure Adelaide running defender Martin Mattner, possibly in return for their second round pick (No.28)

* The Swans are also keen to acquire Melbourne key position player Brad Miller.

* Hawthorn have opened the door to negotiating on key forward Tim Boyle, after receiving some inquiries, but player personnel manager Chris Pelchen said they would not be "pushing anyone out the door".

* Melbourne have received little interest in silky midfielder Travis Johnstone, despite floating his name in discussions.

* The Bulldogs have expressed interest in Port Adelaide key forward Damon White, but the Power say they expect to keep him.

* Essendon coach Matthew Knights says the Bombers have received some expressions of interest in big man Kepler Bradley and utility Mark Johnson.

Meanwhile, Kangaroos coach Dean Laidley, who remains out of contract, has refused to talk to media either about his own future or his club's trade week intentions.

Laidley sped past a throng of chasing media without commenting as he left the trade meeting area.
