Oh dear / Official statement on Richmond site [Merged]

Great Posts there Good One and Remote Tiger.

I maybe bias been Sugar's president but I think he may be a scapegoat as to me the players all seemed to know on the night, but that is only speculation.

Talk of him being removed as captain is silly and won't mean anything once we step on to the ground in Round 1, the players and the coaching staff think he is the best man for the job and he has proven record as a leader with his win in the Best & Fairest. He probably be respected more for taking this hit when both he and the coaching staff could have possibly taken the hit for his gaffe (tribute) to departing players.

Rather that concentrating too much on Kane wishing departing players well for the future I'd prefer to concentrate on his comments in the EOT section of the RFC site.  It's a pity the article isn't available for general viewing but here's a snippet.

The Tiger skipper used his acceptance speech to issue a rallying cry urging his teammates on to bigger and better things in the not-too-distant future.

"We need to play finals football not for the here and now, but because one day we will be old and frail and none of us wants to look back at this unique moment in our lives and think what might have been," he said.

"If we are not burning all our energy every time we play wearing a Richmond jumper, we are short-changing our own history within the club. Tonight is a celebration of a small group of people who burn their whole tank of fuel every game.

"Let it be an inspiration to all of us for what is possible. We are in this together and each one of us has the capacity to shine throughout their careers. I look forward to taking the next step in 2007."

Give it your all Tiges and Eat 'em Alive in 2007.

Well said Rosy.

There are 2 points I'd like to make.

First - I may have this a*se about but it seems to me that the Club has hung Kane out to dry. They should have immediately moved to support him.
Second - our much maligned (by some) skipper has won the B+F. It shows why he was appointed in the first place. He leads by example.

Terry Wallace was on SEN this morning

Said Kane was not hung out to dry but did say that Rodan, Humm, Roach and Kellaway were aware after player meetings that they were no longer required but at the time of Kane speech it was not made public.
Had no problem with Kane paying tribute to players but reason why not announced was that they were/are going to help each player find a new home.

Hopefully with Terry coming out puts the matter to bed and we can focus on other things.
