I know I should be making an appointment with a shrink, but let's say "Hi Terry here's an extension for two years which will bring you up to the infamous 2011 quote, however there are certain criteria that must be met, if you agree to these you can have the extension. The reason we have decide to extend your contract is based on one the fact that you know the playing group, as this is what you have designed and believed can do the job for the Richmond Football Club".
Criteria:
1. You will have complete new coaching assistants which we will oversee the appointment of. This includes psychologists, fitness staff etc
2. You may recommend to the recruitment department certain types of players that you believe are needed. Again the final decision rests not with you.
3. You will abandon the existing game plan until the playing list can grasp the concept by brain, skills etc
4. The players requiring a tap on the shoulder will be notified this year preferably prior to the midway mark no more Gaspargates.
"Oh by the way Terry, your salary has been reduced to 300K per annum, if you can coach the team successfully into finals football in 2010 (meaning not get booted out first up) then we will offer you a bonus of 200K, if you make the GF in 2011 as you predicted, we will give you a 300K bonus for 2011."
This is just a start so add things as you see fit or give me the number of a good psychiatrist.
