I don't know enough about it but I would like the learned junior watchers to tell me which clubs did poorly and why so I can use that info Monday at work to slag off other clubs and p!ss off their supporters.

Have been told by a source that Port's 1st pick was a waste.

They also wasted a pick on Rodan.

On face value the Maggies have a lot of work to do with their list.

Wakelin and Presti are near the end, Tarrant gone, and a dearth of pace and skill throught the middle, with too much left to Burns, Buckley and Licuria whose skills are ordinary.

So the pies did well taking Reid and Brown to offset their KP crisis over the next few years as well as having young Rusling and Cloke. Brown and Reid most likely will be looked at to shore them up down back whilst Cloke, Rusling and Rocca provide the size up front.

That said they took Dawes as well whilst a talented kid i am sure they shoulda taken one of the quality mids with their next round pick.

I think the pies may have been of the mindset that we'll fix the height issue with one foul swoop and get another one next year, after which they can concentrate on getting the midfield sorted.

Who knows but if i was Collingwood i woulda taken another runner.

They took two mids with their last 2 but 2 KP followed by 3 mids would probably been their best bet

One of the guys on SEN was saying that Collingwood HAD to go tall with this draft as they had gone small/mid in the last two drafts so had no choice this time. Just shows how complex list management is these days.

Scumwood, Bulldogs and Melbourne seem to be examples of clubs who didn't pick the best kid available in Rd 1 but instead picked according to their list requirements. Port's first pick seems to have everyone mystified including Port supporters.

Thomas, Heath Shaw, Pendelbery, Swan ???

Collingwood supporters seem to be pretty wild about selecting Dawes in light of his long-term knee injury. One or two suggested that Collingwood wanted Edwards but the Tiges took him at 26.

Thats 3 flankers and a wingman Skills im talkin engine room, they got no pace.

I think Collingwood again took somewhat of a risk, but addressed some key areas. I was suprised of both Reid and Brown, but in hindsight, after analysing the draft for 10 hours ( :-[) I think they did okay.

In my opinion, two of the better recruiters in the AFL are Scott Clayton (WESTERN BULLDOGS) and Craig Cameron (MELBOURNE). I think those two clubs had a decent draft, but with the talent pool so good, and with decent draft picks I think they could of done better, but then again we will see in a few years time, they are fabulous recruiters.

The best drafters IMHO today, were the Bombers, I mean, Gumbleton, Jetta, Hislop, Houli, Davey etc is some great talent to get through the door in one draft.

The other one was Geelong. They had a headstart with Tom Hawkins wrapt up father son, but to get Joel Selwood , Nathan Djukerra and Simon Hogan also was great strategy. Djukerra an excitement machine, Selwood a future captain.

I think we then come into play. Jack Riewolt, Shane Edwards, Daniel Connors, Carl Peterson and Andrew Collins with the draft picks we had is awesome. Greg was expecting two great players and three speculative choices, well he now believes he got three great picks and two speculative choices. Fantastic effort.

You can basically say anything and you may be correct, if some clubs made short-term picks to try and cobble up some improvement in the next couple of seasons, you can bag them for that.

If other clubs have taken big gambles by selecting "roughies", or rated players earlier than most predicted, you can then get into their supporters for that sort of desperation - you can't lose!!! ;D

Keep in mind that the exact same things can be thrown at the Tiges', as no one can really judge now how good any of these selections are (only time on the field will prove that).

i thought fremantle did well with their 3 picks collard obrien mourish the latter will be a player imo big upside. the first 2 were late first round second round picks imo.

You are probably right David. The trick is I think to talk and act as though I know what I am talking about as the chances are they won't have any knowledge either.
