On a lighter note, let's talk about Andrew Raines. [Merged]

Re: On a lighter note, let's talk about Andrew Raines.

Thanks.

I agree if we have another performance and there is a possibility it may happen and thats because i have seen it happen not over the last five years or so but over two decades.

I was 14 when i ran around the table(1980) with my then late dad stiring his beloved magpies after each goal and him chasing me like father and sons do-just having fun.

I have seen and gone through like most of us can recall some terrible , terrible beltings. People might remember our wooden spoon year when we had to beat the then Bisbane Bears and lost and ended up with the spoon. Then one two seperate occassions having to win say the last two games either one and being smashed (i think it was one year we had to beat either the Cats or Carlton (yes it was at Optus oval but both ganes we lost by over 10 goals and without a fight through away a finals opportunity. It wasnt until Northey came that he did install something into the team but even then Geelong smashed us at Waverley park by i think 80 something points and fans clapping and saying what a good try when really the mentality thats exists now which Terry has inherited goes back so far its not funny.

Players shouldnt have to have a week and performance like Friday spark them into some sort of fight.

Its a mental issue more than anything else.

No matter what background we all have here and what we have been dealt with in life if we all gave up without a fight it would be a sad place. Therefore it becomes a mental issue. The strength through adversity to overcome and have strength and pride.

These players, this club has accepted far too much for far too long.

More kids like Raines i want to see playing for the club even if they mess up at least Terry if he is going to build the club from the ground up then keep playing some more kids. Look at how far Raines has come and he will only get better.

In regards to Roach, I think 2006 will see him rise like Lazaris from the Coburg grave. 2005 was a horrible year, and his fitness and skills have improved dramatically.

Really impressed with his form in the preseason and was one of the triers on friday night. I think he'll be a great player for us just like his old man.

Very excited about rainsey.

I'm not getting too excited about Rainsey just yet;
Must admit, I had a chat with a club official in October last year and he was very confident that Andrew would improve considerably in 06;
My concern, I've seen too many kids like Raines have their footy careers stalled, cause there wasn't enough support onfield to give enough confidence to take their footy to another level;
Examples of this include, Craig Smith & Michael Pickering...just to name two.

Positives: courageous, prepared to take and give a knock, has a bit of vision, filling out nicely, good tackler who always tries to do the right thing. You can tell he desperately wants to play for us.

Negatives: slow sometimes, doesn’t have much endurance, still jumps in the air when he kicks and produces too many floaters or balls that are too high. But he’s getting better.

I’d play him every day of the week and continue to give him a chance over some of the soft, mentally weak clowns that we’ve had running around our club for the last umpteen years.

Yep I agree, I agree about that "desperately wants to play for us" line to. Just looks like he is trying to soak up every minute of a game and get better by each minute not games or season. He wants to be better right now, he wants to excel in other words he has a fierce desire. One of the few who do.

Tick for Miller if he turns out OK, still got a long way to go but to get say 70 games out of pick 73 would be a bonus I think.

Re: On a lighter note, let's talk about Andrew Raines.

Now I hope I dont moz young Andrew but he is a classic example of not writing of a youngster off too early Many "experts" had already written him off last year most kids need at least the 3 pre seasons to start too show if there any good

I think you will find he will improve steadily over the next few months. His ability to stand tall, break and give off handballs in tackles is something most players dont have (within 2 months time this will be evident to most) - he must have strong legs. Also his disposal and vison are improving each game think back to last year every kick went sky high now he is hitting forwards low and pin point most of the time but he can now use his long kicking to advantage from 50+ out to kick goals or set up 1 outs for talls if needed. Its good to see him (a project type player) improving and setting standards for the other youngsters, proving that hard work and persistance does pay off.

Was just ok turn the ball over alot by foot, lucky his man did not kick well.

Andrew Raines will be a STAR!

This kid looks like he has the goods to be a gun midfielder.
Long live the father/son rule!

Roachy needs some time on the park to also show some glimpses of the talent he possesses.

Just reading back on this thread just gave me goosebumps as he has portrayed similar running characteristics as per his old man. Sitting and watching him run & kick the ball over the last two rounds brings back memories of Geoff 25 odd years ago. Let's not 'tag' the kid with 'star' status just yet, but he has surely come a long way, and I'm not talking about Queensland.

Of all the players who left us to play with that filth in the 80's rainseys departure gutted me the most.

What about me?  It was like losing a girlfriend, I was so devastated I have never recovered up to today, I'm so run down & depressed, I look like Cassady's avatar.

There is so much to like about this kid. Some of his dashes (gee there were dad like).

He killed Milne. Gave him a bath.

He is improving every time i see him.

Proud of him.

I liked the look of Will. Have ever since i saw his first game against the Swans. No wonder he was elavated from the rookie list last year. What a trgedy. Will he come good when he returns. Positive will be he will be stronger(size wise) but we all remember Draga? The kid was flying then cruely cut twice. Here is wishing a speedy recovery for him and Shultsy. Poor kid cant take a trick.

Well that means Hall has to come in next week and i think Richmond should look at promoting Jeremy Humm.

What do you guys think?

Again with raines i think this kid will be the future of our midfield with Deleido
