There is nothing there. This is a MASSIVE deficiency. Was thinking about Shane Tuck as an example, and there are numerous others. The body language of these guys is lamentable as far as leadership goes. They are so obviously insular when it gets tough.

Where is the outward verballing, gesturing, communication. it's a joke.

I am actually surprised D. Kingy has not had more of an impact here. MAybe some of these players are beyond changing

as you know i watch every move chris newman makes...and i saw him SCREAMING at players...no one can ever say he gives up,,the tackle from him that brought fevola to the ground was the highlight of my night.....there was no way in hell chris was gonna let him get away...unfortunately...as the ball spilled there were no other tigers to help him out and it was swooped on by carlton and a goal scored.

that's good to hear then. He is obviously making an effort. It needs to spread through the team. Funny how it takes being given the captaincy for a guy to lift in this area, but credit to him. All players now need to take ownership.

Nathan Brown's leadership - pffft. selfish

A poor game for a new captain's debut and not one he'll remember fondly. Hopefully things pick up soon.

Was Newman the player involved in a heavy collision almost in the centre of the ground during the last quarter ?

Talking about leadership, when Cloke tried to snipe Cousins, Bowden was the only player who remonstrated. But I dont think that was leadership.
The real leadership came from Cloke, who took the initiative targeting the right player.

This thread reminds me of the interview (which I think I posted about at the time) I heard pre match on the ABC radio last year with the sister of Mark Williams. She had been a very successful netball player and was doing a thesis on the the value of recruiting sportspeople on the basis of leadership skills.

She was working with a business guru from the states about the advantages of such people in the business environment and how it advantaged the company. Some of the more interesting things were about the attitude adjustment required from the company to not only recruit these people but also how best to integrate them and gain the most from their input, even at a junior level.

Might be worth a board or footy dept member looking at the thesis.

Dissertations on moral & ethical leadership might also be worth a good read.

chris captained his junior team to successive premierships for about ten years in a row...!!! from under 9s on...

i think you will find that a lot of the afl players captained their junior teams...or definitely were leaders in the group

is that what you meant?
