On the Couch - discussing Tiger coach turmoil

I really fail to understand the romance of Sheedy. I am a huge fan of Sheedy but the dynamics and timing are all wrong now.

Talking of Sheedy as care taker is fantasy land stuff, which is why I am not entertaining it.

Sheedy will not be given the senior role next year, therefore he will not take on a caretaker role this year. I've heard people say, and some of them have been people I respect highly, that he would "love the challenge or opportunity etc" . I think not (unless he would be angling for the senior job despite being told otherwise). It's a lot of work and stress. Outsiders see it as "Oh but if he knows he is not getting the job, it's no big deal". Elite sports people with strong hungers can't turn on and off their competitive instincts like that and now he's had a break and been enjoying it, it's a lot of mental anguish to go through.

We really need to move on and concentrate on what allows us to make the best decision for the next coach.

Already we have supporters massing for Wallce to be sacked and this club has a bad history of cracking to supporter pressure and low substance/high appeal decisions.

Remote Tiger touched on one of my concerns about Sheedy. Imagine if by sheer default of having a fit Cousins, Cotchin etc back in the side and hopefully developled players rising to seniors or finding form...even if just spurred on by the coach going and playing a half season burst for their lives...imagine if Sheedy milks a 6 or 7 game winning streak with our run home at the MCG.

Their will be a massive circus and distraction in supporters calling for Sheedy to be appointed that the club will face much like the Cousins one that made them backflip.

No, we need to stay low profile in our process and concentrate 100% on making the right decision long term. Caretaker role is not that important in the grand scheme of things. I have little doubt Wallace will make it to at least Round 7, most likely i am tipping him to make it to Round 11/12 before the verdict is etched in stone.

Agree with all that.

I would like to see TW stay on for the remainder of the year, even if he is told he will not get a new contract. This way, he can have a fair dinkum dip at some of the pea hearts that have continually let him down over the journey. He can tell them if he is going down he will be taking a few with him.

Now that's a good perspective, like it a lot.

If he was not to continue, why would he have a fair dinkum dip?? What would be the upside of all of that for him??

Unless he is a very honourable man, I would think he would be happy to just see out the year without too much passion. Hopefully he would be a bigger man than that, but human nature is fickle at best

That is the problem with any caretaker coach though. If the caretaker gets wins on the board, then it may sway the RFC board to go with what we have rather than look at other alternatives. The Giesch was unleashed because of a strong finish to the year as caretaker, and it proved to be a bad move.

I have a massive problem with a caretaker coach for that exact reason. Gieschen became a cult figure that year and the board was left with no options.

If we did have to have one, there must be strong stipulations attached regarding selecting all available under 25s before an older player can be selected or something like that. Thinking a la Tony Shaw at Collingwood. Some of those kids might have something but their confidence is shot. Guarantee them games to the end of the year and hopefully the talent (if there is any) will emerge.

As for Sheedy, what about president? Not much of a wrap for March.

This is proof that beating Carlton is like going on a 1 week bender for Richmond. We beat those guys at Optus Oval, and after we woke up from our drunken stupor, we realized we have married the Geisch :-[

I know the Hird idea is just a bit of fun, but can you imagine how the bombers would react if we snaffled him? They'd go berserk. :rofl

Essendon are only interested in ex Tiger players for coaching roles.

Wallace will not be sacked. The club will announce that his contract will not be renewed past this year. The ball will be in his court on whether he sees out the year or walks. I think he will walk and the club will still pay him out. The last thing the club would want is a messy end to all of this.

this could very well be the scenario after tonight....

"Richmond Coaching Turmoil" as beaten up by the pathetic media MORONS.
Gawd I hate these [as they were described to me today] "Bottom feeding scum"
I have decided to completely ignore any cr@p that
Craig "the weasel" Hutchison, Mike "I don't have an original thought" Sheahan, Mark "I hate Richmond" Robinson, Damian "the school bully was a Richmond supporter & teased me" Barrett etc. etc. etc.

I don't really follow Soccer too closely but I find it amazing in AFL that once a coach reaches 50 he is considered old and over the hill yet in the English Premier League you have a number of top coaches/managers in their 60's.

Not sure why over here, you are gone by the time you reach 50.

I remember the chant in the outer that afternoon - was probably part of it to be completely honest. What a monumental stuff up that day led to.

Is a going point NZ Tiger and on this topic, instead of the thread topic ;), I was reading an article last night that showed there has been a big uptake in the hiring of people in the 'over 60' bracket in recent times; along with a big rise in the number of unemployed in the 16-19 age bracket.

Seem that outside of the 'football world' people/ employers are again valuing experience, knowledge and a proven work ethic above most others.
