One of the positives after a shellacking like that ...

Neither will Roos as he has said as much. Not really sure what your point is here L2R.

There no formula for a successful side, and the game's changing so fast that if you try to model yourselves on a present-day Sydney or Geelong, you're already living in the past by the time you get there. Like most others I don't have unflinching faith in Wallace's direction, but he's building to a model he thinks will be successful in the future.

I agree with claw's point that tough teams with a heavy defensive emphasis are needed to win premierships. I don't think a formulaic structure in terms of height and predetermined roles will get the job done though. It's the players themselves that are important.

Positives were (for a side getting smashed).

-Foley is class and ended up beating a hard tag and shining in the end.

-Deledio is becoming pure class and showed an ability to perform in a side that had largely given up by halfway through the first.

-Shulz- Thought he fought hard and won plenty of contests esp in first quarter when nobody was winning their position. Can't work out what happenned after that. Should have been kept at CHB or given a job. Instead saw him on the bench and moved forward. Don't blame this bloke if he struggles to kick a bag after being told he is our CHB gets dropped, promoted and then thrust forward. Thought he gave on the day.

-Newman- sick of hearing crap about this bloke. He is in our best 5 players and probably should be captain. Puts in week after week and should be put into the centre with Johnson gone.

-Bowden- Has definately picked up his intensity and is putting in. Again, cops too much here. Is still in our best 22.

Moore- continues to show he has it to take a third tall in defence.

-Tambling- Against all critisism, he is still improving and whilst this process is slower than we all would have liked, I think he will become a very important player for the club.

Negative to name just a few.

-Patto- I am sorry mate, but I love your heart and endevour and my 5yr twin daughters have a photo with you on the wall (so I would love for you to be a champ which you still may be) but you are not cutting it in the ruck due to height and size and you are not giving enough around the ground. I think you need a spell at Coburg to sit at CHF and work up to the ball and see if you can get back into the side as a true CHF. To put the weight of no 2 ruck on your shoulders is not fair.

-Hyde- Outclassed on Goodes is no disgrace and probably should never have been given the job. A couple of weeks at Coburg to regain confidence and form. Tagging at this level requires you to hurt the opposition on occassion as well.

-McMahon was terrible and appears the sort who is damaging only when we are up and about. There still may be a place for this off the bench but whilst surviving the chop this week will be right under the microscope.

-Tuck- If Tuckie wasn't the size he is he would have been dropped weeks ago. Has had little inpact this year and needs to regroup at Coburg. We can't keep picking him because he has size in the contest. His dispossal has been poor and impact minimal.

-Pettifer- had a poor day. Bad time to have it after the Bomber game and just coming back into the side but should be given Adelaide to make amends. If Johnno was not injured would have been in trouble for his spot.

Final on the positive side is that we have players pushing from Coburg such as Polak, Collins and Tiva, all of whom may come in for Adelaide. Other possibles, are Cartledge who should be promoted to replace Patto for a stint and Connors who despite not showing the form has plenty of game for AFL level.

Terry Wallace may well get his 5 years at Richmond but on the back of today I would be looking for a replacement to take this team of kids to the level required to be a premiership team.

There's scope to start a 2nd new thread with the overall content of this post oldie.
But then again, you could almost merge this quote specifically with 100 other threads at the moment.
Yesterday game was the first clear sign to suggest that TW will fail in his last tenure as an AFL coach. Ou forward line consisted of Joel Bowden & Jack Reivoldt and our midefield was made up of Hyde & Tuck. Our biggest possession winner was playing deep in defence on most occassions. And...everytime I bloody turn my head to watch the Tigers, Newman, King & McMahon always have the ball in their hands. Is that telling you something?
