A lot of nervous posters out here. I note the comments about poor form bringing up old posts. Fair enough I'll cop that. The reason I resurrected the post was that it is typical of the knee jerk posts or views that have become synonomous with the 'Richmond streotype fair weather supporter' and relevant also to the abuse of players thread.
Wallace gets in on a five year plan - recruits 6 kids in the first 36 picks. Every one agrees we are a basket case and we need time - yet six weeks into his first season a skinny kid (with a good junior pedigree)busting his guts in Coburgs twos gets dumped on - probably just to take a pot shot at GM and Wallace and by implication anything Richmond so that we can preserve the myth that Richmond are perenially doomed and we eat our own.
The post was premature and silly - but hey people can post what they want. Its just that its typical of what get sposted here and it gets tiresome. The mantra is lets give Terry time and 5 minutes later its bag the 18 year old or 19 year old kid. Same things have happened to Foley, Tambling, Schulz etc.
Funnily enough my support of Rory stems from the same principles in action. Lots of hyperbole about Rory never playing a good game was thrown about by the more hysterical posters. My posts were about restoriing the balance. Everyone knew at the start of 2005 that Rory with a bung knee (and body) and 26 was up against it to stay on the list - rather than stick the boots in I supported him - and credit to him he gave his last season a red hot go. At his age and match payments he needed a very good case to stay on the list and the state of his body let him down with good kids (playing on minimal payments) coming through the ranks and likely to be of more value very quickly. The decision to delist Rory was tough but probably correct. In the end he showed guts and dignity on the field - not a claim some can make.
BTW happy for any of my Rory posts to be resurrected. Very keen in fact to see the fabled "Rory is a superstar post" (drunken stupour perhaps or is it a figment of one's imagination?) - If these make me look like a goose, then so be it. I'll trot out by best 'sheepish' grin and put my hand up and say yeah - got me.
But nothing wrong with a bit of accountability. If you post a lot of rubbish - a gentle reminder of the fact may in fact be therapeutic.
Cheers from the perfect one
