One year on......

I consider myself the world's greatest cynic, but even jaded old me is starting to feel a bit of a tingle at our prospects over the next 2-3 seasons. I expect further improvement next year, but no miracles. Browny will take time to not only regain fitness and strength, but confidence in his body again. Our kids are terrific. Happiest I have been with regards to the young'uns for ages. Does help when you get the cream (go Lids), but I'm looking forward to seeing Lids and Bling running amok. I can't help but think one A. Krakour will be a big improver this year, add Roden to the mix and IMO these boys will gell and be an exciting force over the next few seasons. Administratively speaking, we can only pray that we've learnt from their mistakes and hope that we can make a decent dent in the debt quickly so as not to weigh the club down for too, too long. Come on winter.

Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships. - M Jordan basketballer

This is true for Sydney with exceptional teamwork and an intelligent coach
vs
StKilda who have exceptional depth of young talent

So willl we strive for teamwork this year and TW prove to be the intelligent coach.

Ti's an interesting question Geoffrey.  What is more concerning is what it took to bring him and the board to account and change their ways.
if you think cc has changed his ways your more deluded than i thought you were gus.

Nope didn't say he had changed his ways Claw. Said the board had been bought to account and changed THEIR ways. If from your darkest corner you must admit that the Boards performance has been an improvement overall. One might suspect that one Mr Stephen WRIGHT may have had something to do with that, not to mention the membership. (by the way I didn't vote for him)

You should remember claw a leopard never changes his spots.

Regards

Your dear deluded Feral ;D

In fact clubs such as Essendon will usurp us in regard to success and development of youth due to their acceptance of an ordinary season this year whilst developing kids which is what RFC should have done rather than finish 12 with a substandard side that will take the field again next season apart from the kids i am not getting too carried away. 8)

Out of interest I did a bit of research on that claim that a club like Essendon played young players at the expense of performance on the field and these are my results:

Age Ess Rich

18 1 player for 18 games 1 player for 22 games
19 4 for 44 6 for 42
20 5 for 35 3 for 13
21 2 for 13 1 for 6
22 5 for 72 1 for 20
23 5 for 48 3 for 61

On these stats we actually played 2 more players and the same number of games between 18-19 year olds. Up to the age of 21 we played one less player, however the number of games played gaps up. At 22-23 we are lacking players. I think this probably shows the damage done by the Frawley era but from what I can see this is being addressed satisfactorily.

I am very interested that you picked out Essendon as a team that has foresaken onfield performance for the experience of younger players. Essendon have of all teams have been one who have successfully over a long period of time managed to remain very competitive not because they played young players but because they maintained a balanced mix of young and old players and by bringing in the younger brigade sparingly rather than throwing them to the wolves. Essendon played 19 players this year between 23 and 27 years old. If that core couldnt do better then what they did this year, then you'd have to question Essendon's short-term future. Its gonna take a master stroke from the master coach, Sheedy, to make something happen quickly this time. I like the Tigers future a bit better at this stage.

Cheers

Great call, why do some people have to be negative all the time! Just acknowledge this one minor win.
Deledio v Roughhead-Win
Tambling v Franklin - Draw
Thursfield v Kirkby - Win

Secondly knowing how boards operate - CEOs have a 100% bigger impact on finances that Board Members!

Ah one year on...and we manage to clear a $2.5M debt, win 6 more games than the dismal 4 from last year, introduced a handful of young players that may well be the future in 5 years time, introduced exciting football programs between player & ex-champions of the club, added to the current club sponsorship balance, created a football coaching staff with 10 premierships to their names...and this website, affectionately known as 'PRE', is still the jungle it was 12 months ago.

Get ready, the tigers are just starting to build another era...Eat'm Alive.

Not too mention still retained anywhere from 8 - 9 very ordinary or past used by date footballers !!!!!!!!!!!!! :hihi :hihi

:sleeping :sleeping :whistle

One year on and save for Thursfield, Lids and Bling as well as prospect of Meyer and return of Brownie the tigers face 06 with close to  the same list that is riddled with mediocre talent and sub standard players.
So for mine apart from watching the kids come on next year i am not expecting too much to be honest in regard to success and most certainly feel our list is not good enuff to see September for some time.

I have a strong suspicion that Rodan, Polo and Foley will have a significant impact on our list next year as well, and Hartigan will hopefully be injury free.

Not all doom and gloom

The new club general manager must surely be given much of the credit for our improved financial position..also Greg Miller as a member of the board seems to speak rather responsibly on the subject of finances, which apparently was his achillies heel when he was at North.

It would seem his election has been a success :scold

Interesting that at this very time last year, the so-called "Plan" that had been worked out with the AFL was going to be our salvation.

Now, of course any plan has to be implemented, so anyone who has done that side of the equation successfully deserves praise, but let's wait until our 2005 accounts are published to see how well the promises (that were made to us last year) have been kept.

If the Football Department has not been able to keep to its expenditure budget, one may well be justified in asking some tough questions of the person who is responsible not only at board level, but at day-to-day operational level.
