Only 4 years to go

I thought Raines, *smile* and Rodan were all very good today...... pre season cup - who gives a crap. Keep em in cotton wool until the real stuff. You take any sides best defender (gas) best midfielder (cogs) and best player (brown) out of the line up and ur gunna struggle. Get over it everyone we will be ok.....the hawks dont have much more than crawford and brown to come into that line up......... We have stacks of improvement. Also i wouldnt be too harsh on our decision making and disposal out of half back - the dawks flooded all night which proves wat a loser clarkson is - we had little options. CHF was a worry - cmon patto fire up big man!!!
Bring on the real stuff.

I've always said that Richo was another lucky kid in 1993.  If he wasn't a son of a previous Richmond player, he would'nt have been picked due to his kicking ability and especially as a full-forward.

There have been some ridiculous posts tonight but that takes the cake TF.  Unbelievable.
For a player who has proved not only to us but to the whole football world that he has kicking problems for over 10 years, I find it really hard on how any team would've recruited him, especially as an FF.

Funniest thing I've read in ages.

TF why don't you just post "I would like to proudly announce my lack of judgement as a football pundit".

There have been plenty of players who have one or two weaknesses. That's why the elite are the elite. Richo makes up for his unquestionable poor kicking with some of the best marking skill you'll ever see and superior athletecism.
Well my "lack of judgment" is clearly telling you that if an AFL player who couldn't kick straight in attack and had no defensive part of his game would be lucky to be drafted.

Did Richo kick 100 goals per year back in Tassie as a teenager did he ?

He wasn't even drafted because he easily slipped as a Father/son player compared to other more skilful players who missed out (eg university)

Can you work that one out ?

So before my sides split can I be clear - Richo has had an AFL career with us purely because of his dad (who was no legend), is actually not up to AFL standard and no other club would want him.

Have I got it right?

I originally posted that because we have now seen Richo still has kicking problems after 13 years, it would seem he was LUCKY to be drafted/chosen.   If he turned out to be a top FF who improved his kicking year by year (ala Dunstall, Lloyd, Lockett), then it would be clear that WE were lucky to have taken him as father/son.

Who would you take ?  A kid who can kick straight or can't kick straight ??

I'm not talking about how he marks or runs or shows loyalty for the club.

kick straight or not kick straight. to simple an analysis.

6ft 7in 100kg full forward that is unstoppable on a lead who occasionally sprays his kicks v straight kick. richo any day.

if richo had played in a team with a decent midfield he would have kicked 100 goals every year.

i did not see the game tonight but my brother is a dawks supporter and he laughed at the disposal to richo tonight and questioned why Richo has tolerated it for 13 years. every other club in the afl would take him without question.

the reality is if richmonds success and failure did not rest soley on the boot of richo this would be a mute point.

...P Bowden settled in nicely, Roach got shown up again...

LMFAO...on the one hand we have a mature player who turns the ball over almost every time he touches it, hits the post on the run from 5m out...straight in front under little pressure, has another shot for goal from the 50 straight in front which doesn't get within 30m of scoring (our new CHF... :rofl)...doesn't lay a tackle all day, doesn't chase anyone, and had no accountable role all day except when he drifted into defence only to be outmarked.

On the other hand we have a kid playing one of his first games, at FB on the most dangerous small forward in the comp, who battles valiantly all day and comes out the end with no less goals against him than Williams would have kicked on anyone else in the side, and you bag him mercilessly for his efforts...

Great analysis...

have to say i agree with you Ray Ray...... I thought P.Bowden was pathetic. I dont think i saw him chase once last night...in fact everytime a loose hawks player had the ball i was thinkin who is this guys man...sure enough Bowden was on the opposite wing jogging. I actually thought Roachy wasnt too bad. He isnt a full back and i agree he was playin on the guy who half way last year was a walk up for the coleman..... roachy did some really nice things wen the ball hit the deck...i reckon its wing/half back or coburg for this kid nothing else. I was sittin right in fornt of Disco up on level 3 and he looked a shattered man.

Bring back Pettifer at least he lays a couple of good hits on himself each match.

Tool poster of the week or perhaps the year.
Toss[ers] up.
TF or Felix

Two awards there skip. One for the week (or day if you like) and another for the year for consistency over a long period of time.

It would have to be an outstanding effort even at this early stage JB to beat this comment no matter how many Tool awards we give out.

Yeah I agree. It's time we stopped this meaningless father/son recruiting and concentrated on more worthwhile players.

Yeah Richo is just useless enough that even at the age of 30, if we decided to trade him, there would be just about 15 clubs willing to snap him up. Why would they have considered him at the age of 17? :rofl :rofl
