What about Tom Derickx?
Given the circumstances of the match and what happened afterwards, one of my all time favourites.

Roachy’s is a great mark, easily in the best handful of all time.

This one is hard to beat though.

Its is a speccy no doubt, the launch with the hands has never sat right. I like the ones where they leap then get the ride with arms up for the ball. Smith's happened in front of me at the Gabba. Never forget it, he just kept going up.

Whether or not it's the greatest mark, the Roach photo is the best footy photo of all time.

This one, not the one where he's on the way down.

You’re right. That one is better. And also right about it being the best photo of a mark regardless of where the mark itself ranks.

Yep. It's like a work of art with all the players in position. Kudos to the photographer who captured the moment.
Ted Golding.

Quote from Disco himself:
"The only thing in hindsight that suggested something (about recording the mark) was that our property stewards Charlie Callander and Dusty O'Brien said they heard someone running around the boundary line yelling out, 'I got it, I got it.','' Roach says.

"It must have been him (Golding).''!”

I find Moorecroft’s to be one of the most annoying marks of all time (try to find a good photo of it!).
It’s good. But overrated in my opinion. Peter Busustow’s was better - got higher with spring alone. Modra took at least 3 that were better. I didn’t even think Moorecroft’s was the best mark of that year! I reckon this one was better....

Yep. Houli, Rance and Grigg nothing like that now.

What a Khunt that result was.

That last centre bounce Deledio cost us when he shirks the contest and GC get it away. Never watched it properly before but that is the moment (other than Tom's intervention)

I also think The Buz's was better. Also Moorcroft was never the same again after taking that mark, it buggered up his hip for good.

As soon as that KHunt goal went through, the TV went off, I kicked the cat (actually I've never had a cat, must have been the neighbours) and stormed off cursing like a sailor and I absolutely refuse to watch it again. You'd have to strap me to a chair and force my eyes open a la A Clockwork Orange to make me watch it again. Same with Browny's broken leg, and more recently, Shorty's elbow.

Some things you just don't have to see again

Interestingly they (Roos & co.) just discussed the closing stages of the Gold Coast game in On The Couch. They went pretty easy on the Suns and said you need to make allowances for young teams.

Gold Coast v Melbourne 2019 avg age 24.20
Richmond v Gold Coast 2012 avg age 23.81

watching the Tom Boyd interview. Fantastic. What a fine young man!

Robbed of the Norm Smith BTW, said it at the time. Had nothing to do with the fact I'd backed him :clap1

basically said he was a gun footy player, he never had much choice in the matter, and he was never that into it after juniors. The mental health thing was grossly overblown, it was just a battle for him to maintain the intensity required because he wasn't that into it. Left and stopped being paid, said he believed in a fair days work for a fair days pay. Left 2.5 mill on the table. Bevo was a great coach, bulldogs were great, he just wasn't into it.

Its an amazing story. If he hadn't had that 2016 finals series, and the colossal GF, he'd just be another overhyped, flash in the pan, looks like tarzan plays like jane etc, but the fact he was capable of anything in spite of being in cruise mode is amazing. He came across as very self aware, humble and honest.

Geez aot of people would change their tune after hearing the lad left that cash on the table after winning them a flag.

No Dogs fan would begrudge him keeping a million of that 2.5 he left behind had he done so after that GF winning game.
