Operation Nakia Cockatoo

He looks like Morabito from the 2 min's of youtube highlights.
His defensive game reminds me of Dusty and visually reminds me of Des Headland.

Why do we lack indigenous players? Who says we have to have them? Is it an AFL mandate that we have to have a certain number? Maybe the coaching panel don't want this flair you say they have. Are they being racist by not drafting them?

What a nonsense.

It's not an AFL mandate, but with indigenous players representing around 9% of AFL lists, and us having 1 out of 44 or so players, the question needs to be raised. Are we missing out on something other clubs have well covered? You can start with both of the grand finalists and work your way down the top 4 teams, it would seem we are the exception and it sticks out like a sore thumb.

It sure does mate and i cant believe that its something to be proud off TBH, The last Indigenous player we took with a selection before #50 was JON (im not including Edwards as nobody knew he was Indigenous prior to his selection)and i really cant be buggered to see who was our highest selected indigenous kid before jon - Looks like we just dont seem to rate them or are not prepared to take a chance

You wouldn't have had to look too hard...or think too hard, honestly. It was the year before JON. Tambling.

An understandable omission, but don't forget Tambling! I worry that our emphasis on good solid citizens who excel in the interview may mean that we miss out on a few rough diamonds. Clearly with Dusty taken at 3 there comes a time when talent overshadows the interview, I can't imagine Dusty impressing Francis with his witty repartee.
Our diversity looks pretty good when you have a couple of Eastern Europeans, a Muslim, even a Tasmanian, but the missing link is our lack of indigenous players. I hope this fixes itself naturally, through picking the best available who happens to be indigenous and is named after one of our fine indigenous bird species.

A small part of me wants us to pass on him, just to see all the fanbois break the internet as a result. >:D

I'm pretty sure that will happen if we pick Ellis.

My perception of late is that Ellis has been slowly gathering a bandwagon of his own... It's a Morris Minor compared to Cockatoo's B-Double though. I think if it happens the degree of outrage will depend on our later picks.

I'm not convinced there is enough information out in the Interwebz to make outrage a suitable reaction if we pick Ellis at 12.

Ellis over Cockatoo, Weller or Wright will cause a meltdown.

i see Ellis as our Zak Jones of last year, where we pick him if our other preferred options are gone by pick 12.

Not my first choice at all but I wouldn't begrudge the club picking Ellis.

He's a classy operator and a natural footballer.

The likes of C. Ellis, Chimp and Miles would give Dusty, B. Ellis and Lids clearance use. A nice thought.

Anyone who has even a semi-appreciation for the vast wealth of info recruiters have on these kids compared to non-recruiters would never get too upset over who we choose.

Agree Chimptastic. We have a long track record of trying to pick players with the x factor. I have to say I am rather happy with the Cotchin, Vlaustin, Ellis, Conca, Lennon, Martin type picks saves on blood pressure medication.

Oh REALLY.
Care to name just three players we've picked with the "x factor" since Jackson was named full time recruiter in 2006.
