Of all the options being floated around there are only three that are practical.

A sack terry and apoint a good coach with instructions to make the finals.

B tell terry he is not going to be appointed next year and that he is to play most of the juniors for the rest of the season .

C terry resigns and a care taker coach is appointed with instructions to do as above.

B or C for me although both pose huge problems... I'd probably prefer B but I'd want to see a serious change in the style of play - I couldnt stand another 18 rounds of the poo we've seen so far.

We won 8 of our last 11 in 2008, we're only 4 games into 2009.

We have an easy-ish draw, a caretaker now might breathe some life into the group and we still sneak into the 8.... if we're good enough.

While it's almost inconceivable, I guess an option D is that with Cotchin, Coughlan and Cousins back in the next few weeks the team suddenly pulls its finger out and we just sneak into the finals. If so, would you still get rid of Wallace?

Again, very difficult to see it happening, but it is only four rounds in.

What about sacking Terry & appointing a psycologist to run the place.

How about an expert in Repressed Memory.

You could get the players to remember back to the days of U/12 footy, when they'd tackle, shepard and kick the ball forwards.

I'd be very surprised if the club sacked TW now. Agree with other posters who have gone down the line of let him coach the season out but let him know mid season he wont be coaching the RFC in 2010 and start seriously canvassing and interviewing the best available options out there.

As supporters I think we have to accept something regarding a new coach. Let's stop the messiah complex where we think every new coach will be the one to get the club into finals and the elusive Premiership. The reality is that with how things they are at Richmond now the club is 10 - 15 years away from a Premiership, and I think the 15 is more likely than the 10. The next coach will not be the one to bring the flag to Tigerland, it may not even be his successor, it could very well be the 3rd one to take over the poisoned chalice. Before the coach comes to Richmond a long term plan needs to be drawn up, one that boards, recruiters and coaching panels MUST follow. It will take 3 years of regularly cleaning out 10+ players to cut out the cancer that has infected the club's culture, then the rebuild can be started. So anyone who takes on the job has to be prepared for 3 years at least of pain before they even start to see results. Then the rebuild begins from the ground up. The arrival of the AFL's demon offpsring: Gold Coast and West Sydney, sets it all back. It won't be much fun being a Tiger for a long time, but think how sweet it will be in the future when it does eventually come together and we Richmond supporters can stick it up everyone else in the league.

Neat post. I hope to god we've got the maturity to realise this and put some serious long-term planning in place. Rumours of Campbell being pushed for coach just because he's an ex-player make me wonder. But it's the sort of long-term thinking that made me change my mind over the likes of Malthouse or Matthews. Our immediate need is a down to earth coach who'll smack some sense of discipline and confidence into the players. If we can't get someone young who we're confident will do this now, get an old hard nut and give them this job as an interim target (2 to 3 years), then start to think about a premiership coach.

No-one will enjoy a long delay before we're serious flag contenders, but I'll enjoy my footy a hell of a lot more for the next decade if we're not a bunch of easy beats who as like as not will only play for one quarter a game. I think we can at least aspire to that.
