what is the romance with the players from other clubs. morrison played a few games for us in his final season and we all breathed a collective sigh of relief when he was delisted. polak plays a few games for freo this season and when we trade for him he suddenly becomes the answer to our kpp problem down back.

fiora was a pick3 and didn't develop into much more than a handy player and was the target of much negative debate. polak was a pick 4 has only player a handful of games in the last two years and has similarly been the subject of much negative debate by freo suporters. but now that we have drafted polak everyone belives he will be a gun. did fiora improve with a new club? so why the euphoria over polak?

polak's management advised him if he wanted to earn more money he had to leave freo so this is why he came to richmond( our coach's nick name is wallet :rofl )
i hope he will be on a performance based contract.

Yes Y&B, Graeme Polak has to play good footy and he has to do that job consistently.

Most normal people would be comfortable about giving Polak a chance to play good footy over here before declaring that he can't or won't.

Very selective posting mentioning players who haven't been a big hit but not mentioning the successes.  They don't all have to be superstars to be considered a success either.  Torney is an example.  A very handy player for Adelaide. Gaspar comes to mind too.  ;)

I don't think it's so much "euphoria" but moreso supporting our own.  Graham is a Tiger and at least deserves a chance.  Those supporting him don't have a clue how he'll go, but neither do those who are writing him off without a chance.

By Graham's own admission, he hasn't played very consistently this year (see Anduril's article in the Journo's board). So, at the very least, the people who are writing him off have the form on their side. The people supporting him are the ones hoping he'll turn it around at the new club...with only a no. 4 draft pick from 5 years ago in their corner...that's it.

I guess P-Bo came with a similar form streak from the Doggies and managed to turn it around and become a valuable player in our line-up...but, then again, there wasn't any first round draft picks involved with his recruitment...

Correct me if I'm wrong, checkers, but wasn't Troy actually showing some really good form and there were numerous clubs after him? And the only reason he came here was because of the 5 year deal?

If that's the case, then its certainly different from Morrison, and perhaps even different from Polak. And, for Simmo, we only had to give up Fiora...

I cant remember, thats like 3 years ago.

Yeah he hasn't played a lot of games over the past couple of years, but with form being a reason this year, and I think it was a knee injury in 05, he's got ground to make up.

Morrison on the other hand, was never drafted high in a draft, never received a rising star nomination, let alone come 2nd. We're not really comparing apples and apples here are we?

Polak has an amount of potential that Morrison has never had, the question is, whether or not Greame wants to get the most out of it for his new teammates and coaching staff. Yes it's a risk, one I still haven't made my mind up whether I like or not, but we have to give the guy a shot to prove it was a good decision don't we?

Originally in the "don't touch Polak" corner, I feel there are more reasons to be optimistic than stated.  Sure Polak has played fewer games recently, but he was also behind Johnson (possibly in the best half dozen attacking CHB in the comp now), McPharlin and Parker for key back positions.  To be behind Johnson is no shame, McPharlin is just as versatile as Polak but with much more experience on his side, and Parker is rightly their FB.  Fitness and opportunity have not been Polak's friend!  He won't have at least one of these excuses next year.  Also in Polak's corner is the apparent enthusiasm of Wallace to make this guy a CHB.  I 'd rate that a  pretty big plus!

Nice mention of Polak's 2nd in the Rising Star General - ala Raines...................................

It's not about wishing a player well or not.

It's about this club playing the percentages !!

Polak has had his chance at Freo. He hasn't performed. We shouldn't be trading for him especially at the expense of a top 10 pick where we can get a genuine player. At 13 we are reducing the percentages.

At national draft day we should also stick to the percentages. We have to recruit well rounded kids who have performed. Percentages !!

But the RFC way is to be speculative, to be cute, to try and outsmart other clubs by going for kids that haven't shown much but appear (to the RFC) to have a big scope of development.

If you don't play the percentages you will get burnt in this equitable competition.

Practically all junior watchers Harold believe from pick 5 onwards the draft is even. Those genuine players your talking about will be gone by pick 5.

Well said and I understand your point but half out team hasnt performed over the past 5 years. So what do we do with them? It's more about us fulfilling a need, not just trading for the heck of it.

I hate to break it to you guys, but Polak IS HERE now so all of the talk about what we should or shouldn't have done is now pointless and irrelevant. We cannot go back and change a thing, so now I suggest we embrace what is being done at RFC by TW (3/5 of the way into 5 year plan) and try being supportive. Isn't that what supporters do?

Well you'd hope so. ::)

Comparing to Morrision is not wise.  Hardly anyone thought Morrison was a quality draft and that' how it panned out.  Polak's WAFL form itself shows that he does have the ability.  Was in East Fremantles best couple of players in the last 3 or 4 games.  You cant discount a young player who can get 14 marks and 28 possessions in a game of footy even if it is at WAFL level.  Just got to get his head right and this is his fresh opportunity to do so.

I think the Tigers have played the percentages well Harry.  Basically given up Pick 42 for Polak.

yep.................while realising they have glaring gap in the backline that a draftee (8 or 13) would struggle to fill (which still beggars belief on the Kellaway issue - even for one more year).  Tis a done deal, Wallace sounds happy - bring on 2007!
