I thought Id select a 23 year old and under side as its these players if they go on with it who will take us to the finals in the future and could be around for another 10 years. Hopefully :) :). I chose players who have played in the seniors more in the side.

Backs King Thursfield McGuane
HB Raines Polak Jackson
C White Deledio Meyer
HF Tambling Hughes Edwards
F Riewoldt Schulz Howat
R Pattison Polo Foley

Inter Oakley-Nicholls, Hartigan, Connors, Collins, Casserley, Peterson, Graham, Moore

Now I think some of these players wont make it IMO Moore, Graham, Meyer?, Howat?

Also we have Pettifer, Coughlan, Krakouer? Hyde? who might have 5 or more years left.

Its obvious to me we lack height back up ruckmen and also some strong bodies allowing for some of our boys will fill out. Just wondering if anyone could put together some other teams under 23 sides and see how they match up. I really believe Geelong is one team that is set to be a force for the next five or so years have alot of young up and coming guns T hawkins, Selwood, Varcoe etc aslo plenty of talent around 21 to 25 years old. How do you think we match up if hopefully our young players really kick on. At this stage IMO we only have Deledio maybe Tambling, Reiwoldt who will be elite as in top 10 in AFL in the future.

I'm actually genuinely excited about that side. Thanks for posting it.

Hopefully, Peterson can replace Howat in a Forward pocket and Cass, JON and either Collins or Connors can join Kreuzer on the bench.

I really am excited of our future 3 years down the track if 15 to 18 of these youngsters reach their full potential we will be a top 4 side for sure. To go to the next level ie premiership it will depend on how our recruiting is in the next 2 years. We need to get it right. Also we need a captain from this group I know he is still getting there but Lids is the one that stands out. I still have my doubts about Meyer, Shultz, and a couple of others but I really hope they make it. We should have that window of opportunity from 2009 to 2015 as wallace has said. I believe Wallace and co have made some mistakes with our structure and selection at times but generally have been happy in the direction we are heading. Our time will come and look out the roar will be heard Australia wide. All our long suffering supporters will reap the rewards.

2007 is the disaster we had to have.

Seems a bit like the Keating comment about the recession we had to have. I like the side posted and know that the future is looking good. When you look at that team and add 50 games to many and suddenly we are becoming more experienced and a far more formidable lne up. We will have the pieces we have lacked. Older heads who can finish off teams or who can hold it together when leadership is required. Am looking forward to seeing a new leader from this group. As Paul Kelly said in his song about Bradman...."In the darkest hour the great avenger is born" Wonder if the 2008 skipper will burst through the pack at the first bounce of the new season and kick it a mile...in the wrong direction?

Now how can we address the current burning issues of Melbourne this week and A1 and A2 messing with our game for the love of their sponsorship dollars?

you can't look at that team and say we won't be in the finals in two years

Yes you can, very easily. There are blokes in that side that won't be playing AFL in two years time let alone finals for us.

The side has a very weak ruck division, also too many weaklings who would hesitate to fight for the jumper.
thats where matt Kruezer comes in.

My sentiments exactly, we must however capitalise on having first pick in the PSD. Dal Santo or Riewoldt or at the very least a ruckman like Meeson. If 2011 is a realistic goal then the holes need to be plugged ASAP.

The glass is always half empty for you isn't it GPB.
