Our 3 least effective players round 1..

Deledio rarely lets the side down, the Bowden brothers on the other hand are soft, unaccountable and chase easy possessions to justify their spots in the team. They will never play have a effective finals campaign because when the heat goes in, they go missing, other clubs laugh at the fact they are rated so highly at Richmond. You might have all the skill in the world but it doesn't mean *smile* if you haven't got a heart.

1) Our game plan (lack of game plan)

2) Poor skills

3) We panicked (No movement up the ground)

The lack of play makers after half time was very alarming. No boby would lead or break to create an option. The players who had the ball then hesitated panicked and turned it over time after time after time. At one stage in the last quarter Wallace pulled Richo and Polak of the ground at the same time??? We then had nobody to kick to in the forward fifty. 2 turnovers resulted from this that ended up with Carlton kicking 2 goals.

For a game plan to be effective it needs to be executed effectively by football players. Not the fault of the game plan.......the fault of the players. Turnovers and a lack of real desire for the win in the last quarter was a real problem as well as the man on man tactics employed by the blues in the 2nd half.

T.Wallace, B.Royal, D.King.

All three are expected to line up with the Coburg reserves this week to find some form.

The Tiger Mascot, when asked how he felt about standing in as senior coach, was heard to say that he was "rapt", and looked forward to sharing some of his ideas with the boys.

P. Bowden reminds me of what we have tried to do in the past. Remember Matthew Manfield. Tall well built running utility with very few attributes. I'm really worried about this bloke. Where do you play him? Key position forward is no good because he doesn't attack the ball hard enough and to play him in the backline as a loose man is a luxury that will be afforded to teams less and less now because the tempo of the game is too fast. Bowden will still get leather poisoning in some quarters on games but lets not forget that he still has to be accountable for a man. That's the biggest worry.

TW's use of Patty is really annoying me. With McGuane and Moore in the side, surely there's no need for Patty to play down back, unless its as a loose man. Patty is a good mark, a pretty accurate kick and has a pretty decent brain on him...so why not play him up forward? We've got Richo and Schulz down there, as well as Brown when fit and Pettifer...I reckon Patty could really slip under some team's guard.

Problem with training form and intra club practice matches is that you are playing against yourself. You may look fantastic, but if your game is sub standard this is hidden since you are playing against others who are sub standard. A game between two top VFL sides may look highly skilled but play one of those sides against a top AFL side and the VFL side should look like a rabble.

The season proper is where our guys are going to learn how to match it with the big boys. Unfortunately they are going to take quite a few hits before they learn enough to get it right consistently. There is no substitute for experience, and anyone who thinks there is some magic formula that can be applied to make a young team successful is kidding themselves.

Small and steady steps.
