Our Backline

I just posted this on BF so ill post it here too - its a little out there but some thing need to change...:

Id be putting Jay Schulz to full back..tell me he couldve done worse than Joel Bowden last night!?!? If Wallace refuses to leave him on at FF all night thats fine - but dont have him on the bench for god sake. Have Polak and Sarge on the key backs and someone like Thursfield/McGuane on the third tall....get someone like matty White to take over Raines role on the small fwds and get boys who can use the ball like Casserly and Meyer onto a back flank or even Johnson who is like a geriatric in the middle. Then get Bowden, Raines, Newman and Deledio out of the backline and into the guts - where the game is actually won. Have Pattison, Richo, KK, Hughes and a restin Simmonds as our tall up fwd. We need to find a fwd that can keep the ball in...dont know where from though  ::)

Something like this:

Thursfield   Schulz    White
Casserly     Polak    Polo
Bowden     Raines  Newman
Tuck           Richo     Pettifer
Brown       Kingsley Pattison

Simmonds, Foley, Deledio

Tambling,Johnson,McGuane,Meyer,Tivendale, Howat and whoever else..

I dont care where Sarge plays just leave him on the ground, was better last night,Please leave Polly at CHB an build a backline around him,MUST BUILD STABILTY BACK THERE,pinch hit any where else

I am not Gaspars biggest fan, but he played a really good game. I cant understand why people are bagging him on last nights effort.

I think some people are pretending of watching last nights match or have no idea.

Mate Kel Moore ............... spare me :P

Kelvin will be lucky to play next week.

In the last quarter when the game was there to be won he really let us down on 2 occassions.

Bowden was one out in square with fevola and out of position. Moore was standing 3 or 4 metres away - rather than help his teammate out and punch the ball through for a point he stood and watched Fevola take the mark right in front of goal.

The ball went back to the centre - Carlton won the clearance. Bowden was in better position this time. Moore left his man to help out - made a halfhearted spoil attempt. The ball went out the back of the pack to Moores man Fisher and he kicked an uncontested goal.

Certainly the runner was straight out to him.

Gaspar is miles ahead of Moore. You guys use Gaspar, Krakouer & Tivendale as scapegoats all of the time. Have a look at the game.
If your going to single out one bloke then i suggest you look at the Whole side.Moore,s mistakes were more lack of judgement.Sure he messed up the spoil but at least he had the balls to leave his man.You know Terry,s message at the end of the game?We didnt take risks.
Our problem isnt those in the backline. Its the midfeild.

I wouldnt be baggin Moore to much after last night....in terms of games he is still very inexperienced..yet i thought he did some really good things...and actually hit a fwd lace out with a 50m kick ....one of the only times for the night i saw that! He also showed courage and copped it from Fev.....his effort with Walker was rubbish....still that will happen to an inexperienced kid...one of the goals to fisher in the last quater only came about cause Moore left him to back back into Fev on the lead...which caused a spoil....Fisher was left by himself....i didnt mind that...he put his arse on the line for us.

Yes the problem is the midfield....but Joel Bowden is not a FB - he is a midfielder who can kick goals (2001) and Chris Newman should be in the middle...our lack of defenders means we have little choice but to play them there....hence the problem becomes the backline.

not blaming Moore for us losing - was just pointing out how far behind Gaspar he is.

The reason why we lost was that we stopped running in numbers - and they didn't

the one thing that has given me the runs for 2 decades is our inability to even look like scoring until junk time.

I actually thought there were some promising signs in this regard last night except for that horrible patch from mid third term to mid last term.

Even then, there was movement throughout the ground that allowed this to happen if the right decisions were made at the right time.

A number of opportunties were presented to go down an opened up central corridor that were not taken or not seen - we went down the wing as per usual and got choked up as per usual. Bad decision making and even poorer dispoal cost us in the most important part of the game when we had them on toast.

Bad habits die hard, which is a good reason to keep bringing in the kids as much as we can (strewth, I'm sounding like claw!)

I actually thought the first quarter was a cracker from both sides too.

Lastly, if Tivendale had a right side, he would have been a good player. He had quite an ok game except he was prevented from really being damaging without the ability to off load on both sides. A shame really.

Capt I think I'm in love. ;)
Been saying this for ages myself.

(And why did Lids spend all that time in the forward pocket?)
