Our draft picks since 1999, depressing reading!

Don't beleive the media - our kids aren't the problem - it's our senior squad - and all those who made those mistakes have departed thankfully.

Agree - our biggest problem is pre-2004 draft. In particular, two shocking blunders:

1. Pavlich: I know, move on... but seeing him yesterday again. DAM
2. 2001: No participation in the 2001 "Super Draft". Just cannot afford to turn your back on talent

There are other howlers, but these hurt the most.

The Hawthorn comparisons are only skin-deep and getting tired. As some have wisely pointed out many of their better players have been around longer. And many conveniently forget they had a number one pick in the 2001 super draft.

I'll ad some more -

- Trading away pick 2 for Johnson. OK pick 4 some would say. Give me Salopek then. Lost Torney also - experienced player who would have added as much as Johnson has, if not more.

- Trading 6 and 20 for Brown. Yes Brown is A class but he wasn't what was required. He is the cream on top of the cake. We needed severe foundation work at that stage with good quality youth but we took the band aid approach. His leg injury is probably a lesson for us in a sick and wierd way.

- Then to top it off we got cute with with our earlier 2003 picks. Fist Gilmour - a left field speculative pick which raised alot of eyebrows. He hadn't done much at junior levelo. Then came a feel good F/S in Roach who had shown even less at school footy level.

5 potential players that could have been hitting their straps atm were lost to the wind.

Hopefully we have learnt the hard way that you MUST respect the draft.

What about Tambling and Franklin? Not worth a mention?

I think you mean Roughead and Tambling.
